Henry Hamilton (Irish Politician)
The Honourable Henry Hamilton (1692–1743) was an Irish politician who sat in two Irish parliaments. Birth and origins Henry was born in February 1692, the third and youngest son of Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne, Gustavus Hamilton and his wife Elizabeth Brooke. His father would in 1715 be ennobled as Baron Stackallan and in 1717 advanced to Viscount Boyne. Henry's mother was the eldest daughter of Sir Henry Brooke (died 1671), Henry Brooke by his second wife, Anne St George. Brooke was knight of Brookeborough, County Fermanagh, and governor of Donegal Castle. Henry had two brothers and one sister, Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne#chldrn, who are listed in his father's article. Henry Hamilton (colonial Administrator)
Henry Hamilton (c. 1734 – 29 September 1796) was an Anglo-Irish military officer and later government official of the British Empire. He served in North America as Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Quebec (1763–1791), Province of Quebec and later as Deputy Governor after the American Revolutionary War. He later served as Governor of Bermuda and lastly, as Governor of Dominica, where he died in office. In 1779, Hamilton was captured during the Revolutionary War by rebel forces at Fort Sackville in present-day Indiana, while serving as the Lieutenant Governor and Superintendent of Indian Affairs, at the British outpost of Fort Detroit. He was transported to Virginia, where he was held by Governor Thomas Jefferson's rebel government until October 1780. He was sent to New York and gained freedom in a prisoner exchange in 1781, being allowed to depart for London, England. Henry Hamilton (March 28, 1788 – June 1, 1846) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life In 1806, he removed from Herkimer County, New York to Schoharie, New York, and taught school. He studied law, and was admitted to the bar. In 1816, he married Maria Lawyer (1800–1867). He was District Attorney of Schoharie County from 1818 to 1821. He was Surrogate of Schoharie County from 1832 to 1840. Henry Hamilton (playwright)
Henry Hamilton (c. 1854 – 4 September 1918) was an English playwright, lyricist and actor. He is best remembered for his musical theatre libretti, including ''The Duchess of Dantzic'' (1903), '' The School Girl'' (1903), '' Véronique'' (1905) and '' The Little Michus'' (1907), often adapting foreign works for the British stage. He began as an actor in 1873 but turned to writing plays in 1881 and was especially successful in the first decade of the 20th century. He was also the author of the popular song "Private Tommy Atkins" (1893). Away from his professional life, Hamilton studied theosophy. Henry Gilhespy Hamilton (1887–1938) was an English professional footballer who played as a centre forward for various clubs in the 1900s and 1910s. Playing career He was born in South Shields and started his professional career in December 1908 with Sheffield Wednesday before moving to Huddersfield Town in April 1910. At Huddersfield he scored ten goals in sixteen league games, plus three in four FA Cup matches; this prolific form attracted the attention of Southern League Southampton's new manager George Swift. Swift was Southampton's first appointment as manager and promptly embarked on a spending spree, signing eleven players in six weeks. Hamilton was immediately drafted into the first team as centre-forward, making his debut on 2 September 1911 at home to Millwall. Rev Henry Parr Hamilton Royal Society of London, FRS FRSE (3 April 1794 – 7 February 1880) was a Scots-born clergyman and mathematician, who was Dean of Salisbury for 30 years. Life He was born at Blandfield House, between Edinburgh and Leith, the son of Alexander Hamilton (Scottish physician), Alexander Hamilton, Professor of Midwifery at Edinburgh University. He was educated at Edinburgh University and Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating BA in 1816 and MA in 1819. He wrote two textbooks on analytical geometry, ''The Principles of Analytical Geometry'' (1826) and ''An Analytical System of Conic Sections'' (1828; 5th edn, 1843). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1828 as "a gentleman well versed in mathematics", and was also elected FRS (Edinburgh) in 1822, as well as FRAS and FGS.
