Henry Green was the pen name of Henry Vincent Yorke (29 October 1905 – 13 December 1973), an English writer best remembered for the novels ''Party Going'', ''Living'' and '' Loving''. He published a total of nine novels between 1926 and 1952. Life and work Green was born near Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, into an educated family with successful business interests. His father Vincent Wodehouse Yorke, the son of John Reginald Yorke and Sophia Matilda de Tuyll de Serooskerken, was a wealthy landowner and industrialist in Birmingham. His mother, Hon. Maud Evelyn Wyndham, was daughter of the second Baron Leconfield. Green grew up in Gloucestershire and attended the New Beacon School in Sevenoaks and then Eton College, where he became a friend of fellow pupil Anthony Powell and wrote most of his first novel, ''Blindness''. Henry Dickinson Green (May 3, 1857 – December 29, 1929) was an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Pennsylvania's 9th congressional district from 1899 to 1903. Early life and education Henry D. Green was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools, and graduated from Reading High School in 1872 and Yale College in 1877. He studied law, was admitted to the Berks County bar in 1879 and commenced practice in Reading. Career He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives for the Berks County district from 1883 to 1886. He served as a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate for the 11th district from 1889 to 1896. Henry Francis Green
Henry Francis Green (February 6, 1844 – May 9, 1917) was an American merchant, banker, manufacturer and politician. He was a member of the New Hampshire Executive Council from 1899 until 1901. Biography Green was born in Lyndon, Vermont on February 6, 1844. After being educated in public schools he began working for a railway in Vermont. He later worked in a factory in Indiana. He married Jennie Smith on June 18, 1872. In 1877, he settled in Littleton, New Hampshire, where he became a grocery merchant. In 1879 he began working for the Saranac Glove Company, where he became vice president and treasurer. He also worked in lumbering. He later became president of the Littleton National Bank. A Republican, he was first elected as a representative to the state legislature in 1883, at that time only serving for that year. In the 1890s he served as a selectman in Littleton. Henry Alexander Greene (August 5, 1856 – August 19, 1921) was a United States Army officer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He served in several conflicts, including World War I. Biography Greene was born on August 5, 1856, in Matteawan, New York. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1879. Greene was commissioned into the 20th Infantry Regiment. He did frontier duty from 1879 to 1894, serving in Texas and Montana, and he commanded a company of Sioux scouts for three years. Greene served in Cuba during the Spanish–American War, in the Siege of Santiago, and in the Philippines during the Philippine–American War, commanding a company of infantry in both conflicts. He also served as an aide to Elwell Stephen Otis. Henry Alan Green is a Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Miami, and has taught there since 1984. After completing postgraduate work at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the University of Oxford, and the Sorbonne, he received his Ph.D. in Religion from St. Andrew's University in 1982. He is the published author or co-author of four books and numerous articles, and has received recognition for his work on documenting the exodus of Jews from Arab countries after the Second World War. Henry Morgan Green (1877–1939) was an American physician, a national healthcare leader, researcher, scholar, real estate investor, and alderman. He served as the city physician in Knoxville, Tennessee, and president of the National Medical Association. He was one of the founders of Knoxville Medical College; and is credited with expanding healthcare coverage for the Black community in Knoxville. Brigadier-General Henry Clifford Rodes Green, (15 May 1872 – 15 April 1935) was a senior British Army officer during the First World War. Green was the son of Sir William Green of the British Indian Army and Louisa Dunn, daughter of John Henry Dunn. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant into the King's Royal Rifle Corps on 18 November 1891, having attended the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, and was promoted to lieutenant on 3 January 1895. He served in the Second Boer War 1899-1902, as adjutant of the 2nd battalion from 23 October 1899, and was present at the actions of Rietfontein and Lombard´s Kop, the defence of Ladysmith and actions at Laing's Nek. While in South Africa he was promoted to captain on 7 January 1900.
