Henry Finkelstein
Henry Finkelstein (born 1958) is an American artist and teacher. He is best known for his landscape paintings. Finkelstein is the son of artists Louis Finkelstein and Gretna Campbell. He grew up spending the summers with his family on Great Cranberry Island, Maine, and attended Cooper Union art school in New York City, where he studied with Rueben Kadish and Nick Marsicano. In 1983 he received an MFA from Yale School of Art, and has taught at the National Academy of Design since 1996. He has maintained the home in Maine, as well as a residence in the north of France. The landscape of both locations figures prominently in his work. Finkelstein has attributed his interest in color to a childhood visit to France. “I noticed that color was relative. Color was not a fixed thing. I began to see colors in nature I had not seen before. Louis Finkelstein (artist)
Louis Finkelstein (1923 – 20 June 2000) was an American Painting, painter, art critic and professor who taught for at Queens College, City University of New York. Several of his works have been compared to those of French artist and Post-Impressionism, Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne (1839–1906). Biography Born in New York City in 1923, Louis Finkelstein studied painting at the Cooper Union, the Art Students League of New York and the Brooklyn Museum School of Art that used to be located in the museum as a part of the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Finkelstein was an artist and an educator. He was an articulate speaker and writer on art. He taught at the Philadelphia College of Art, Yale School of Art (where he served as interim dean of the Art School from 1962 to 1964), and he was the head of the art department at Queens College, CUNY for more than 25 years.
