Henry Ernest Kendall
Henry Ernest Kendall, (April 29, 1864 – September 2, 1949), was a farmer, physician and politician who served as the 19th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia from 1942 to 1947. Kendall was the son of Samuel Frederick Kendall of Bristol, England and Emily Long of London. The couple settled in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1857. Frederick Francis Mathers
Frederick Francis Mathers (October 17, 1871 – June 29, 1947) was the 18th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia from May 31, 1940, to November 17, 1942. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, the son of Isaac Henry Mathers and Kathleen McDonnell, and was educated in Halifax, at Dalhousie Law School and Harvard Law School. In 1899, Mathers married Margaret Ethel Bligh. He was deputy provincial secretary from 1902 to 1918 and deputy attorney general from 1918 to 1940. The Montreal Wanderers were an amateur, and later professional, ice hockey team based in Montreal. 1921 Canadian General Election
The 1921 Canadian federal election was held on December 6, 1921, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 14th Parliament of Canada. The Union government that had governed Canada through the First World War was defeated, and replaced by a Liberal government under the young leader William Lyon Mackenzie King. A new third party, the Progressive Party, won the second most seats in the election. Since the 1911 election, the country had been governed by the Conservatives, first under the leadership of Prime Minister Robert Borden and then under Prime Minister Arthur Meighen. During the war, the Conservatives had united with the pro-conscription Liberal-Unionists and formed a Union government. A number of Members of Parliament (MPs), mostly Quebecers, stayed loyal to Sir Wilfrid Laurier, however, and they maintained their independence.
