Henry Wood Elliott
Henry Wood Elliott (November 13, 1846 – May 25, 1930) was an American watercolor painter, author, and environmentalist whose work primarily focused on Alaskan subjects. He was the author of the 1911 Hay-Elliott Fur Seal Treaty, the first international treaty on wildlife conservation. A number of his works have an ethnographic bent, displaying aboriginal Alaskans engaging in traditional practices; some of these works are stored in the National Anthropological Archives at the Smithsonian. Elliott also focused on the Alaskan landscape and wildlife. In 1886, Elliott published a book entitled '' Our Arctic Province: Alaska and the Seal Islands'', which contains an in-depth exploration of Alaska's history, geography, people, and wildlife. Henry Wood Elliott II (April 10, 1920–August 1, 1976) was an American physician, pharmacologist, and anesthesiologist. He was the chairman of the Department of Medical Pharmacology and Therapeutics at University of California, Irvine from 1968–1976 and the editor of the '' Annual Review of Pharmacology'' from 1965–1976. Early life and education Henry Wood Elliott II was born on April 10, 1920 in Seattle, Washington. His parents were Therese , a French Canadian immigrant to the US, and Lionel Henry Elliott, a florist. He had a younger sister, Marsha. His grandfather for whom he was named, Henry Wood Elliott, was an artist and conservationist. He attended the University of Washington for his bachelor's and master's degrees, both in chemistry. Henry Venn Elliott (1792–1865) was an English divine. Early years Elliott was born 17 January 1792, the son of Charles Elliott of Grove House, Clapham, and his second wife, Eling, daughter of Henry Venn, the well-known vicar of Huddersfield. Charles Elliott had eight children by his second marriage; Henry Venn was his eldest son and fourth child; other children included Charlotte Elliott and Edward Bishop Elliott. Henry Venn was sent to school, under a Mr. Elwell of Hammersmith, at the age of eight. In January 1809 he was transferred to the Rev. H. Jowett of Little Dunham, Norfolk. He went to Trinity College, Cambridge, in October 1810; became a scholar of his college in 1811; and graduated as fourteenth wrangler in 1814, winning also the second chancellor's medal.
