Henry Davies (Baptist Minister)
Henry Davies (1753 – 9 May 1825) was a Welsh Baptist minister. He attended services at the local chapel, and in 1775 began to preach at Letterston, before, in 1780, being ordained a joint pastor of Llangloffan (a position which he held for forty-five years). After marrying, he lived as a farmer on a farm at Pencerrig near Fishguard. When the French landed near Fishguard in 1797, the invaders raided his farm, but, despite this, he was charged with ‘collaboration.’ The charge was later dropped, but his effigy was burnt by demonstrators at Fishguard Fair in February 1798. Letterston
Letterston ( cy, Treletert) is a parish and local government community in north Pembrokeshire, Wales. Situated on the A40, Haverfordwest is to the south and Fishguard is to the north. The name is derived from the medieval owners of the parish, the Lettard family. History Twelve men of the parish died in World War 1 and six in World War 2; their names are commemorated on the War Memorial at the parish church of St Giles. Governance An electoral ward in the same name exists. This ward stretches south west to Hayscastle. The total ward population taken at the 2011 Census was 2,352. Demographics Letterston's population was 1,245, according to the 2011 census; a 24.75 per cent increase since the 998 people noted in 2001. Fishguard
Fishguard ( cy, Abergwaun, meaning "Mouth of the River Gwaun") is a coastal town in Pembrokeshire, Wales, with a population of 3,419 in 2011; the community of Fishguard and Goodwick had a population of 5,407. Modern Fishguard consists of two parts, Lower Fishguard and the "Main Town". Fishguard and Goodwick are twin towns with a joint Town Council. Lower Fishguard is believed to be the site of the original hamlet from which modern Fishguard has grown. It is in a deep valley where the River Gwaun meets the sea, hence the Welsh name for Fishguard. It is a typical fishing village with a short tidal quay. The settlement stretches along the north slope of the valley. The main town contains the parish church, the High Street and most of the modern development, and lies upon the hill to the south of Lower Fishguard, to which it is joined by a steep and winding road. The 18th century lasted from January 1, 1701 ( MDCCI) to December 31, 1800 ( MDCCC). During the 18th century, elements of Enlightenment thinking culminated in the American, French, and Haitian Revolutions. During the century, slave trading and human trafficking expanded across the shores of the Atlantic, while declining in Russia, China, and Korea.
