Henry D. Clayton House
The Henry D. Clayton House is a historic plantation house in Clayton, Alabama, United States, most notable as the birthplace and childhood home of Henry De Lamar Clayton, Jr. (1857–1929), a legislator and judge. Clayton came to prominence while serving in the United States Congress as the author of the Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914. This act prohibited particular types of conduct deemed not to be in the best interest of a competitive market. He was appointed a Federal District Judge in 1914, where he became recognized as an advocate for judicial reform. State Route 30 (SR 30) is a state highway in Barbour County in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 51 at Clayton. The route continues until its intersection with U.S. Route 431 (US 431) south of Eufaula. Route description SR 30 is routed along a two-lane roadway for its entire length. It serves as a connector route between Clayton, the county seat of Barbour County, and Eufaula, the county’s largest city and primary center of retail. Sherman Antitrust Act
The Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 (, ) is a United States antitrust law which prescribes the rule of free competition among those engaged in commerce. It was passed by Congress and is named for Senator John Sherman, its principal author. The Sherman Act broadly prohibits 1) anticompetitive agreements and 2) unilateral conduct that monopolizes or attempts to monopolize the relevant market. The Act authorizes the Department of Justice to bring suits to enjoin (i.e. prohibit) conduct violating the Act, and additionally authorizes private parties injured by conduct violating the Act to bring suits for treble damages (i.e. three times as much money in damages as the violation cost them). Clayton, Alabama
Clayton is a town in and the county seat of Barbour County, Alabama, United States. The population was 3,008 at the 2010 census, up from 1,475 in 2000. History Clayton has been the county seat since 1834, two years after the creation of Barbour County. Clayton is located geographically in the center of the county. The town was located at the headwaters of the Pea and Choctawhatchee rivers on the historic road from Hobdy's Bridge over the Pea River to Eufaula on the Chattahoochee River. By 1818, there were a few settlers in the area around Clayton, but settlement began in earnest around 1823. The town was named for Augustine S. Clayton, a Georgia jurist and congressman. Clayton became the county seat of Barbour County in 1833 and was laid out on a central courthouse square plan. The first Circuit Court was held in Clayton on September 23, 1833.
