Henry Berger
Henry Berger (1826 - July 24, 1864) was an American prolific organ builder. He was based in Baltimore, Maryland. Early life A native of Prussia, Henry Berger was in business with Anton Dressel in Hollfeld, Bavaria and then had his own business in Bamberg, Bavaria by 1843. Baltimore Organ Builder Berger immigrated in 1849 to Baltimore, Maryland, in the United States and established his own organ building firm. Setting up a shop on the second floor of #75 E Baltimore street, Baltimore, Maryland. The firm's first major contract was to rebuild and enlarge the organ for Trinity German Lutheran Church, then located in the old Trinity Episcopal building at Trinity and High streets, Fells Point, Baltimore. By 1850 he had built several organs, most of which were small one and two manual affairs with an interesting mix of mid 19th century German design integrated with the prevailing English standards. Organ Building
Organ building is the profession of designing, building, restoring and maintaining pipe organs. The organ builder usually receives a commission to design an organ with a particular disposition of stops, manuals, and actions, creates a design to best respond to spatial, technical and acoustic considerations, and then constructs the instrument. The profession requires specific knowledge of such matters as the scale length of organ pipes and also familiarity with the various materials used (including woods, metals, felt, and leather) and an understanding of statics, aerodynamics, mechanics and electronics. However, although in theory the builder is responsible for all facets of construction, in practice organ-building workshops include specialists in pipes, actions, and cabinets; tasks such as the manufacture of pipes, metal casting, and making rarely-used components are often delegated to outside firms. Bel Air, Maryland
The town of Bel Air is the county seat of Harford County, Maryland. According to the 2020 United States census, the population of the town was 10,661. History Bel Air's identity has gone through several incarnations since 1780. Aquilla Scott, who had inherited land known as "Scott's Improvement Enlarged," planned the town on a portion that he called "Scott's Old Fields." Four years later, the town had expanded as local politicians, merchants, and innkeepers purchased lots from Scott, and the county commissioners decided to change its name to the more appealing "Belle Aire." New Baltimore is a borough in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 137 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The first settler was Michael Riddlemoser, who built a house here in 1820, and laid out the street plan in 1829. The community was initially known as Mosersburg, and was later renamed New Baltimore, after Riddlemoser's hometown. The borough was incorporated in 1874. Bedford is a borough and spa town in and the county seat of Bedford County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is located west of Harrisburg, the state capital, and east of Pittsburgh. Cockeysville, Maryland
Cockeysville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. The population was 20,776 at the 2010 census. History Cockeysville was named after the Cockey family who helped establish the town. Thomas Cockey (1676–1737) settled in Limestone Valley in 1725 at Taylor's Hall (an area now just north of Padonia Road and east of Interstate 83). Joshua Frederick Cockey (1765–1821) built one of the first homes in the area in 1798 and built the first commercial structure, a hotel, in 1810 in what would become the village of Cockeysville.
