Henry Bayntun (died 1691)
Henry Bayntun (17 December 1664 – June 1691) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1685 and 1691. Bayntun was the son of Sir Edward Bayntun and his wife Stuarta Thynne daughter of Sir Thomas Thynne (cir 1610-1669). Bayntun was elected Member of Parliament MP for Chippenham in 1685 and sat until 1690. He was then elected MP for Calne in 1690 and sat until his death in 1691. The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. In 1801, with the union of Great Britain and Ireland, that house was in turn replaced by the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Origins The Parliament of England developed from the Magnum Concilium that advised the English monarch in medieval times. Lionel Duckett (died 1693)
Lionel Duckett (1511August 1587) was one of the merchant adventurers of the City of London. He was four times Master of the Mercers' Company, and Lord Mayor of London in 1572. He was born in 1511 to William Duckett of Flintham, Nottinghamshire and his wife Jane (née Redman), of Harwood Castle, Yorkshire. He served an apprenticeship with John Colet, of the Mercers' Company of the City of London, and was granted the freedom of the Company in 1537. He became enormously wealthy through his trading. He subscribed to Martin Frobisher's three voyages in search of the Northwest Passage, and to John Hawkins' voyage of 1562 which led to the formation of the Africa Company, paving the way for the Atlantic slave trade in later centuries. Alexander Popham (c. 1670 – 16 June 1705), of Littlecote House, Littlecote, Wiltshire, and St. James's Square, London, was an English politician. He was the only son of Sir Francis Popham of Littlecote Park. Popham was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Chippenham in 1690–1698 and for Bath from 1698 until his death on 16 June 1705. Sir George Speke, 2nd Baronet (1 October 1653 – 14 January 1683) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1675 and 1683. Speke was the son of Sir Hugh Speke, 1st Baronet of Hasilbury, Wiltshire and his wife Anne Croke, daughter of John Mayne or Mayney of Staplehurst, Kent. He succeeded his father in the baronetcy in 1661. In 1675, Speke was elected Member of Parliament for Bath in the Cavalier Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Bath in the two elections of 1679. In 1681 he was elected MP for Chippenham. Edward Bayntun (died 1679)
Sir Edward Bayntun (2 December 1618 – 26 July 1679) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons variously between 1640 and 1679. Bayntun was the son of Sir Edward Bayntun of Bromham, Wiltshire and his wife Elizabeth Maynard, daughter of Sir Henry Maynard of Eaton, Essex. He matriculated at St John's College, Oxford on 15 January 1636, aged 17. He was a student of Lincoln's Inn in 1638. In April 1640, Bayntun was elected Member of Parliament for Devizes in the Short Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Devizes for the Long Parliament in November 1640 and sat until he was excluded under Pride's Purge in 1648. In 1654 he was re-elected MP for Devizes in the First Protectorate Parliament. He was elected MP for Calne in 1659 for the Third Protectorate Parliament and in 1660 for the Convention Parliament.
