Henry Anthony (cricketer)
Henry Anthony (16 May 1873 or 20 September 1876 – 13 July 1928) was an English first-class cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Nottinghamshire. He was born in either Old Basford or Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Anthony made four first-class appearances between 1898 and 1902, in the Nottinghamshire lower-order. Anthony's brother, George and uncle Alfred also played first-class cricket, the brothers partnering each other in the lower order in Henry's final first-class game. Their brother Walter Anthony Walter Anthony (February 13, 1872 in Stockton, CA – May 1, 1945 in Hollywood, CA) was a screenplay, titles and documentary film writer. Old Basford
Old Basford is an area of Nottingham located next to Basford, Nottingham, New Basford being split by Valley Road/Western Boulevard. The parish church of St Leodegarius was built in the 12th century. The north aisle and north arcade were rebuilt in 1858–59 and the church restored, except for the tower. The church tower collapsed in 1859 and was rebuilt in 1859–61. George Anthony (cricketer)
George Anthony (25 June 1875 – 13 May 1907) was an English first-class first-class cricketer. He made 85 appearances for Nottinghamshire between August 1900 and June 1905, scoring 1722 runs and taking 82 wickets. He died just two years after making his last first-class appearance, at the age of 31. He made his best score, 89, against Derbyshire while his best bowling, 6 for 72, came against Leicestershire. Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn Rovers Football Club is a professional football club, based in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, which competes in the , the second tier of the English football league system. Walter Anthony (footballer)
Walter Anthony (21 November 1879 – 26 January 1950) was an English professional footballer who made 155 Football League appearances playing as an outside forward for Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers, with whom he won the 1911–12 Football League title and the 1912 FA Charity Shield. He also played in the Southern League for Brighton & Hove Albion. Life and career Anthony was born in Basford, Nottinghamshire. He was the younger brother of George and Henry Anthony, who both played cricket for that county. He began his football career at local level with clubs including Osmaston, Heanor Town, Newstead Byron and Arnold before signing for Football League First Division club Nottingham Forest in February 1904 for a fee reported as £25. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs.
