Henrique De Mendonça
Henrique José Monteiro de Mendonça (4 February 1864 – 1 November 1942) was an influent Portugal, Portuguese capitalist in Lisbon and important landowner in the Portuguese colony of São Tomé and Príncipe; he was one of the protagonists of the economic phenomenon that saw that colony turn into one of the world's main producers and exporters of Cocoa bean, cocoa in the early 20th century. Henrique de Mendonça was President of the :pt:Câmara de Comércio e Indústria Portuguesa - Associação Comercial de Lisboa, Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1911 to 1913, and, from 1930 to 1942, National President of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Portuguese Red Cross. He commissioned architect Miguel Ventura Terra a mansion in the Avenidas Novas, a new area of the city of Lisbon created as it expanded north absorbing nearby rural areas and farmlands. Order Of Christ (Portugal)
The Military Order of Christ is the former order of Knights Templar as it was reconstituted in Portugal. Before 1910 it was known as the Royal Military Order of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Order of the Knights of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It was founded in 1319, with the protection of Denis of Portugal, King Denis of History of Portugal, Portugal, after the Templars were abolished on 22 March 1312 by the papal bull, ''Vox in excelso'', issued by Pope Clement V. King Denis refused to pursue and persecute the former knights as had occurred in most of the other sovereign states under the political influence of the Catholic Church.
