Henk Angenent
Henk Angenent (born 1 November 1967) is a retired Dutch speed skater, specialising in marathon skating and the longer distances. Angenent won the Elfstedentocht on 4 January 1997, outsprinting favourite Erik Hulzebosch at the finish. On 12 March 2004 in Calgary, Angenent skated 41.669 km in one hour, which was the world record in this event until 15 March 2007, when Casper Helling skated 300 metres more. The previous world record was Roberto Sighel's 41.041 km from 24 March 1999. He won a 4th place at the 10,000 metres of the 2003 World Single Distance Championships, after Bob de Jong, Carl Verheijen and Lasse Sætre. Earlier that year he became Dutch champion on the same distance at the KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships. Angenent is a farmer, he grows mainly Brussels sprouts. Adelskalender (skating)
The Adelskalender in skating is a ranking for long track speed skating based on skaters' all-time personal records for certain distances. As in samalog competitions, the skater's time (measured in seconds) for each distance is divided in 500 metre averages, truncated (not rounded) to 3 decimal places, and the results are then added up – the lower the sum, the better. The samalog system was introduced in 1928 in Norway, replacing ranking points in the traditional 4 distance championships, and can also be used to reconstruct scores based on personal records that were set before the samalog system was invented. Thialf
Thialf is an ice arena in Heerenveen, Netherlands. Thialf consists of the Thialf-hal (a 12,500-capacity speed skating venue) and the Elfstedenhal (a 2,500-capacity ice hockey venue). Thialf is used for long track speed skating, short track speed skating, ice hockey, figure skating, ice speedway, and non-sporting events. The outdoor rink was opened in 1967, and the indoor stadium was opened in 1986. Several world records have been set in the indoor stadium. Annually, Thialf hosts two Speed Skating World Cup events. Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors racing, race each other in travelling a certain distance on Ice skate, skates. Types of speed skating are long track speed skating, short track speed skating, and marathon speed skating. Cédric Michaud
Cédric Michaud (born 26 February 1976, in Machecoul) is a French marathon speed skater. He was the first non-Dutchman after Oleg Bozhev to win the Essent Cup in 2002–03, while he won the cup another time in 2005–06. In that year he also won the Dick van Gangelen Trophy and the Six Days of the Greenery. He also won the latter in 2001–02 and 2002–03. As of today Michaud has won 35 marathons on artificial speed skating tracks, including two during the 2006 Six Days of the Greenery. Between 2002 and 2006 he rode 26 races in the orange suit as the leader of the Essent Cup. Jan Maarten Heideman (born 16 June 1973) is a Dutch speed skater who specialises in marathon speed skating. Heideman, currently living in a small town named Gelselaar in the Achterhoek, started as an all-around speed skater, finishing in 8th position three times at the Dutch All-around Speed Skating Championships in 1994,1995 and 1996. In 1996 he won the bronze medal at the 1500 metres at the KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships.
