Hendersonville is an extinct town located in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. Once the largest town in Yalobusha County, the former settlement is today covered by forest. History John Henderson, a Presbyterian missionary and the town's namesake, settled in the area in 1798. In 1833, the Mississippi Legislature authorized the formation of 17 counties, including Yalobusha. Yalobusha County, Mississippi
Yalobusha County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,678. It has two county seats, Water Valley and Coffeeville. History ''Yalobusha'' is a Native American word, likely from the Muskogee language family, meaning "tadpole place." This region was long a traditional homeland of bands of both the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indian tribes, who occupied lands in present-day Mississippi and Alabama. In 1816, General Andrew Jackson ordered the surveying of the line between the Choctaw and Chickasaw peoples. The line as surveyed cut almost a perfect diagonal across the area of present-day Yalobusha County. European Americans increasingly encroached on the Native American territories of the Southeast and, after being elected as President in 1828, Jackson gained passage of the Indian Removal Act of 1830, to force tribes out of lands east of the Mississippi River. Hendersonville is a city in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. It is south of Asheville and is the county seat of Henderson County. Like the county, the city is named for 19th-century North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Leonard Henderson. The population was 13,137 at the 2010 census and was estimated in 2019 to be 14,157. Introduction Prior to the Treaty of Hopewell, the land that now is occupied by Hendersonville was settled by Cherokee tribes. Following this treaty, white settlers entered the region, eventually taking the land of what is now Henderson County in full from the original inhabitants. Poor trade links still restricted economic and demographic growth in the region, until the development of the Buncombe Turnpike, completed in 1827.
