Hemi-Vision
''Hemi-Vision'' is the third album by Canadian blues-rock band Big Sugar. The album was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 1997 Juno Awards. The singles from the album were " Diggin' a Hole", "If I Had My Way", "Gone For Good", and " Up Baby". The band also recorded a French language version of " Up Baby", entitled "Ouvres-toi Bébé", for radio airplay in Quebec (see also '' Chauffe à bloc''). Background The album was recorded in six weeks at Presence Studios and Phase One Studios. According to Gordie Johnson, this was the first album that the band had recorded with an adequate budget, having $65,000 Canadian at their disposal. Johnson collaborated with several other songwriters for this album. Big Sugar (band)
Big Sugar is a band formed in Toronto in 1988 by Gordie Johnson, the band's lead singer, lead guitarist and main songwriter. Between 1996 and 2016, Big Sugar was among the top 80 best-selling Canadian artists in Canada and among the top 25 best-selling Canadian bands in Canada. History Big Sugar originally consisted of Johnson, bassist Terry Wilkins, and drummer Al Cross, though the three musicians had already played together for several years as a supporting band for Molly Johnson's jazz performances, and as an informal jam band with members of the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir. Paul Brennan (Canadian Musician)
Paul Brennan is a Canadian musician. A drummer, Brennan has been a member of Big Electric Cat, the Animal Slaves, Odds (band), Odds and Big Sugar (band), Big Sugar. He has also contributed as a guest musician on albums by Meryn Cadell, Sarah McLachlan, Taste of Joy, Julie Ann Bertram and Mae Moore. He is currently playing with Alannah Myles and Ellis Meek and performing locally in Toronto. Career Brennan was a founding member of the Vancouver band Odds in 1987; the same musicians also performed cover tunes locally under the name Dawn Patrol. Odds recorded their first album, ''Neapolitan'', in 1991; a single from the album, "Love is the Subject", appeared on local radio charts. Patrick Ballantyne
Patrick Ballantyne is a Canadian songwriter, singer and guitarist, best known for co-writing hit songs for Big Sugar, notably "If I Had My Way". He has also released five successful solo albums. Life Ballantyne was born in Windsor, ON, where he taught himself to play guitar and began writing songs at age 14. He also grew up with Gordie Johnson. While Johnson went on to found Big Sugar, Ballantyne became a lawyer, beginning as a prosecutor, then moving to senior positions with KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Toronto Stock Exchange. He is now the CEO of the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario. Throughout his corporate career, however, he simultaneously stayed very active in music. ''Chauffé à bloc'' is an EP by Canadian rock band Big Sugar, released on July 27, 1999. The title translates literally to "Block Heating" in English and is similar to the expression "All Heated Up." In 1996, Big Sugar decided to record a French language version of the single "Open Up Baby", from the album ''Hemi-Vision'', for radio airplay in Quebec.
