Hemenway State Forest
Hemenway State Forest is a state forest in Tamworth, New Hampshire. It includes the Big Pines Natural Area, an area of large white pine trees, including one of New Hampshire's largest, accessible via a parking area and loop trail off Route 113A. The trail also crosses the Swift River with a wooden pedestrian bridge. A spur trail connects to an observation tower atop Great Hill. Carroll County is a County (United States), county in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the population was 50,107, making it the third-least populous county in New Hampshire. Its county seat is Ossipee, New Hampshire, Ossipee. The county was created in 1840 and organized at Ossipee from towns removed from Strafford County. It was named in honor of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, who had died in 1832, the last surviving signer of the United States Declaration of Independence. Conway is a town in Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. It is the most populous community in the county, with a population of 9,822 at the 2020 census, down from 10,115 at the 2010 census. Tamworth is a town in Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2020 census. Tamworth includes the villages of Chocorua, South Tamworth, Wonalancet, and Whittier. The White Mountain National Forest is to the north. The town is home to Hemenway State Forest in the north and White Lake State Park in the southeast. ''Pinus'', the pines, is a genus of approximately 111 extant tree and shrub species. The genus is currently split into two subgenera: subgenus ''Pinus'' (hard pines), and subgenus ''Strobus'' (soft pines). New Hampshire Route 113A
New Hampshire Route 113 (abbreviated NH 113) is a east–west state highway in east-central New Hampshire. NH 113 begins in the Lakes Region at an intersection with U.S. Route 3 and New Hampshire Route 25 in Holderness, and stretches eastward across the central part of the state, ending at an intersection with U.S. Route 302 in Conway, just a few miles west of the Maine border. Route description NH 113 is signed as an east-west route, but is oriented in a southwest-northeast fashion. It begins in Holderness, splitting off the Daniel Webster Highway (US 3/NH 25) near Squam Lake. While the D.W. Highway skirts the southern side of the lake, NH 113 heads around the west and north sides of the lake and east into the town of Sandwich, where it meets the northern end of NH 109. Swift River (Bearcamp River Tributary)
The Swift River is an river located in eastern New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Bearcamp River, part of the Ossipee Lake / Saco River watershed leading to the Atlantic Ocean. The Swift River is located only four miles south of the larger and longer Swift River which parallels the Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountain National Forest. The Swift River begins at the confluence of Paugus Brook and the Wonalancet River in the northern part of Tamworth, New Hampshire, south of Mount Chocorua. The river flows southeast through a narrow valley, which opens up as it reaches Tamworth village.
