Helvetic Guards
The Helvetic Guards are an American football team based in Zurich, Switzerland ). Swiss law does not designate a ''capital'' as such, but the federal parliament and government are installed in Bern, while other federal institutions, such as the federal courts, are in other cities (Bellinzona, Lausanne, Luzern, Neuchâtel .... The team starts in the 2023 season in the European League of Football (ELF). History The entry of the newly founded franchise into the professional league was announced on May 13, 2022, during a press conference to open the 2022 ELF season by the team's general manager Toni Zöller. Together with co-owner Mukadder Erdönmez and others they established the first ELF franchise in Switzerland. On October 30, 2022 the front office announced that they will play their home games in the Lidl Arena in Wil, Switzerland, about 25 miles (40km) eastern of Zürich. Norm Chow
Norman Yew Heen Chow (born May 3, 1946) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the head coach for the Helvetic Guards in the European League of Football. Lawrence Hubert Hill, Jr. (born January 25, 1958, in Montgomery, Alabama) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the defensive line coach for the Helvetic Guards in the European League of Football. Early life and playing career Hill started playing football as a first grader in the local YMCA league. He later played as a linebacker for the Sidney Lanier High School where he graduated in 1976. His collegiate career started at Marion Military Institute, before transferring to Wichita State University and finished out his playing career in 1978. Coaching career Hill started his coaching career in 1979 as defensive coordinator at Cloverdale Junior High in his hometown Montgomery, Alabama. Otis Smith III (born October 22, 1965) is an American football coach and former cornerback, and currently defensive coordinator of the Helvetic Guards. Early years Smith attended East Jefferson High School in the late 1980s. Professional career Originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as a rookie free agent in 1990. He spent five seasons with the team before joining the New York Jets in 1995. He signed with the New England Patriots in 1996, starting nine games, including the playoffs and Super Bowl XXXI loss to the Green Bay Packers. During his first stint with the Patriots, Smith was perhaps best remembered by Patriots fans for recovering a fumble in the 1996 AFC Title Game against the Jaguars. Michael Ruben Wilson (born December 19, 1958) is an American football coach and former wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He is one of only a few NFL players to be a member of four Super Bowl championship teams. He played college football at Washington State University. Early years Wilson attended Carson High School where he played in a run-oriented offense and received All-Los Angeles City honors. He also practiced basketball and track. He graduated in 1976 and accepted a football scholarship from Washington State University.
