''Help! Help! Police!'' is a lost 1919 silent American comedy film directed by Edward Dillon. Plot As described in the film magazine ''Moving Picture World'', George Welston (Walsh), the son of a wealthy rubber manufacturer, is staying in Palm Beach as is another rubber man, Judson Pendleton (Hallam), and his daughter Eve (Mann). The two fathers are concerned about a $100,000 rubber shipment, and are competing for it. George has been arrest twice for speeding. One night he sees a man going by the window into Eve's room, so he climbs the roof and enters. The thief sees him coming and locks himself in a closet. The house detective sees George enter and nabs him, and while they are arguing the thief escapes. Eve and her father enter her room, and her father makes the detective let George go, although he still suspects him. The thief enters another room, gags a girl who was sleeping there, and takes her jewels. A cigarette starts the room on fire. George sees the smoke and rescues ... Edward Dillon (actor)
Edward Dillon ( or 1879 – July 11, 1933) was an American actor, director and screenwriter of the silent era. He performed in more than 320 films between 1905 and 1932 and also directed 134 productions between 1913 and 1926. He was a native of New York City. Dillon's work on Broadway included acting in ''Prince Otto'' (1900), ''Francesca da Rimini'' (1901), ''The Taming of the Shrew'' (1905), and ''The Ranger'' (1907). He left the stage to begin acting in films in 1908, working under D. W. Griffith at Biograph. He was Mary Pickford's first leading man, and he was instrumental in Fay Tincher's developing into a star. Dillon died on July 11, 1933, at the age of 60 in Hollywood, California from a heart attack. His brother John T. Dillon was also an actor. Marie Burke
Marie Burke (born Marie Rosa Altfuldisch, later Holt, 18 October 189421 March 1988) was an English actress of stage, cinema and television. She appeared in over 40 films between 1917 and 1971, and appeared in TV series between 1953 and 1969. Biography Burke was born in London in 1894 to Rosa (née Underwood) and Ferdinand Altfuldisch (sometimes transcribed as Altfieldisch). The family changed their name to Holt during World War I. Career Marie Burke was a British character comedian and trained as an operatic singer in Italy. She appeared in films in 1917, before making her stage debut in 1919. As a member of the Katja Company she was touring Australia in 1926 when she and her colleague, the tenor Warde Morgan, were seriously injured in the Aberdeen Rail Disaster. She met and married British operatic tenor Thomas Burke when they were both studying singing in Milan. They had one daughter, the actress and singer Patricia Burke, who was born in Milan.John D. Evelyn Brent (born Mary Elizabeth Riggs; October 20, 1895 – June 4, 1975) was an American film and stage actress. Early life Brent was born in Tampa, Florida, and known as Betty. When she was age 10, her mother Eleanor (née. Warner) died, leaving her father Arthur to raise her alone. She moved to New York City as a teenager, and her good looks brought modeling jobs that led to an opportunity to become involved in movies. She originally studied to be a teacher. While attending a normal school in New York, she visited the World Film Studio in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Two days later, she was working there as an extra, earning $3 per day. Career She began her film career working under her own name at a New Jersey film studio, then made her major debut in the 1915 silent film production of the Robert W.
