Helen Sears
Helen Sears (born December 22, 1929) is a New York Democrat who represented the 25th district of Queens in the New York City Council from 2002 until 2009. Personal career and early life Before becoming involved in politics, Sears was a health-care professional. She worked as a Director of Government and Community Affairs for the Health and Hospitals Corporation at Elmhurst Medical Center. She went on to serve as a board member of the NYC Health Systems Agency. She further worked as a government employee, working as a Senior Specialist for the New York City Department for the Aging. She then founded the Catherine Sheridan Senior Center and the Marjorie Riley Center. Sears has two sons, a daughter and six grandchildren. The New York City Council is the lawmaking body of New York City. It has 51 members from 51 council districts throughout the five Borough (New York City), boroughs. The council serves as a check against the Mayor of New York City, mayor in a mayor-council government model, the performance of city agencies land use decisions, and legislating on a variety of other issues. Jackson Heights is a neighborhood in the northwestern portion of the borough of Queens in New York City. Jackson Heights is neighbored by North Corona to the east, Elmhurst to the south, Woodside to the west, northern Astoria ( Ditmars-Steinway) to the northwest, and East Elmhurst to the north and northeast. Jackson Heights has an ethnically diverse community, with half the population having been foreign-born since the 2000s. Corona is a neighborhood in the borough of Queens in New York City. It borders Flushing and Flushing Meadows–Corona Park to the east, Jackson Heights to the west, Forest Hills and Rego Park to the south, Elmhurst to the southwest, and East Elmhurst to the north. Corona's main thoroughfares include Corona Avenue, Roosevelt Avenue, Northern Boulevard, Junction Boulevard, and 108th Street. Woodside, Queens
Woodside is a residential and commercial neighborhood in the western portion of the borough of Queens in New York City. It is bordered on the south by Maspeth, on the north by Astoria, on the west by Sunnyside, and on the east by Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and East Elmhurst. Some areas are widely residential and very quiet, while other parts, especially the ones around Roosevelt Avenue, are busier. In the 19th century the area was part of the Town of Newtown (now Elmhurst). East Elmhurst is a residential neighborhood in the northwest section of the New York City borough of Queens.
