Helen Rose Dawson
Helen Rose Dawson (December 16, 1927 – July 14, 2022) was an American religious sister, college professor and college dean. From 1965 to 1999, she was academic dean and vice president of Villa Julie College, now Stevenson University. Early life Dawson was born in Washington, D.C., and raised on a farm in Rockville, Maryland, one of the five daughters of Lawrence Dawson and Helen Jenkins Dawson. She attended St. Martin's Parochial School in Gaithersburg, and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Media, Pennsylvania in 1945. While she was a religious sister, she earned a bachelor's degree from Trinity Washington University, a master's degree from Fordham University and a doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. A religious sister (abbreviated ''Sr.'' or Sist.) in the Catholic Church is a woman who has taken public vows in a religious institute dedicated to apostolic works, as distinguished from a nun who lives a cloistered monastic life dedicated to prayer. Maryvale Preparatory School is a Catholic, independent school for girls in grades six through 12. Affiliated with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Maryvale is located in Lutherville, Maryland. A nova (plural novae or novas) is a transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star (hence the name "nova", which is Latin for "new") that slowly fades over weeks or months. Madison, Connecticut
Madison is a town in the southeastern corner of New Haven County, Connecticut, United States, occupying a central location on Connecticut's Long Island Sound shoreline. Helen Delich Bentley (November 28, 1923 – August 6, 2016) was an American politician who was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Maryland from 1985 to 1995. Before entering politics, she had been a leading maritime reporter and journalist. Early life Bentley was born in the copper-mining town of Ruth, Nevada. Her parents were immigrant Serbians, and her father was a miner. When Bentley was eight years old, her father died of silicosis, a common miner's disease, and Bentley took a part-time job in a dress shop while her mother took in boarders to support the family.
