Helen Johnston
Helen F. Johnston (February 5, 1891 – June 15, 1969) was an American physician and clubwoman, based in Iowa. She was president of the American Medical Women's Association from 1946 to 1947, and president of Altrusa International in 1928 and 1929. Early life and education Johnston was born in Columbus City, Iowa, the daughter of Rufus Sherman Johnston and Louise Colton Johnston. Her father was active in local and state government. She earned a bachelor's degree from Drake University in 1913, attended medical school at the University of Iowa. She completed her medical degree in 1919, from Cornell University College of Medicine. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. Career From 1920 to 1959, Johnston maintained a private internal medicine practice in Des Moines, Iowa, specializing in women's health and pediatrics. American Medical Women's Association
The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) is a professional advocacy and educational organization of women in medicine, women physicians and medical students. Founded in 1915 by Bertha vanhoosen, Bertha Van Hoosen, the AMWA works to advance women in medicine and to serve as a voice for women's health. The association used to publish the ''Journal of the American Medical Women's Association''; the ''Journal of Women's Health'' is now the official journal of the AMWA. National Woman's Party
The National Woman's Party (NWP) was an American women's political organization formed in 1916 to fight for women's suffrage. After achieving this goal with the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, the NWP advocated for other issues including the Equal Rights Amendment. The most prominent leader of the National Woman's Party was Alice Paul, and its most notable event was the 1917–1919 Silent Sentinels vigil outside the gates of the White House. As of January 1, 2021, NWP has ceased operations as its own independent non-profit and has assigned its trademark rights and other uses of the party's name to the Alice Paul Institute. Sun City is a former census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, United States, and now a neighborhood of the city of Menifee, California. Along with the neighboring communities of Quail Valley and Menifee, it was incorporated as part of the City of Menifee on October 1, 2008. The population when Sun City was a CDP was 17,773 at the 2000 census. Sun City is located along Interstate 215 just south of the city of Perris. As of the 2022 Census, there are 26,987 residents in Sun City, with a median age of 47. Of this, 49.17% are males and 50.83% are females. US-born citizens make up 85.81% of the resident pool in Sun City, while non-US-born citizens account for 9.77%. Additionally, 4.42% of the population is represented by non-citizens. Altrusa International, Inc (Altrusa) is an international non-profit organization focused on community service. It was founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1917 by Dr. Alfred Durham as a chain of national clubs for business and professional women. History Altrusa International was founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1917, originally as Altrusa Institute. During that time, a record number of women were going to work during World War I, and there was a need for women's civic organizations.
