The Kroton Hela Wigmen is a semi professional Papua New Guinean rugby league team from Hela Province. The Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition (or the PNGNRL for short, for sponsorship reasons the PNGNRL Digicel Cup) is a semi-professional rugby league competition held annually in Papua New Guinea. Changes in Sponorship have meant it was Formerly known as the SP Inter-City Cup or SP Cup (1990–2008) and later the Bemobile Cup (2009–2010). The current competition is sponsored by pacific telecommunications giant Digicel and so it is currently called the Digicel Cup. History Previous to 2005 the PNG NRL was called the SP Inter-City Cup. The national competition was known as the SP Cup, and has been held since 1990. No competition was held in 2004 due to financial problems and province violence in certain provinces. Hela is a province of Papua New Guinea. The provincial capital is Tari. The province covers an area of 10,498 km², and there are 249,449 inhabitants (2011 census figures). Hela province officially came into being on 17 May 2012, comprising three districts previously part of Southern Highlands Province. Districts and LLGs There were three districts in the province. Tari, Papua New Guinea
Tari is the capital of the Tari-Pori District and is the centre of Huli country in the Hela Province of Papua New Guinea. It is the second largest settlement in the province, and accessible by road from Mendi. The town is administered under Tari Urban LLG. Climate Tari has a subtropical highland climate (Köppen ''Cfb'') with heavy rainfall and mild to warm temperatures year-round. Aviation accidents A Cessna 206 aircraft operated by Missionary Aviation Fellowship crashed close to Tari on March 23, 2006, killing its pilot and injuring 3 passengers. The pilot was a 42-year Swiss man who had been in PNG with the Swiss Mission for 12 years, and left a wife and four children behind. Charlie Wabo is a Papua New Guinean professional rugby league footballer who played as a for the Newcastle Thunder in Kingstone Press League 1. He is a Papua New Guinea international. Wabo is from the Okapa District of the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea.
