Heinrich Beck (actor)
Heinrich Christian Beck (19 February 1760, in Gotha – 7 May 1803, in Mannheim) was a German actor and playwright. Beck began his theatrical career with August Iffland and Johann David Beil at the ''Hoftheater'' (Court Theater) in Gotha and, like most of the ensemble, went to the Mannheim National Theater after the ''Hoftheater'' was disbanded in 1779. The National Theater was then blossoming artistically under the leadership of Wolfgang Heribert von Dalberg. While there, Beck took part in the premieres of Schiller's first plays ''Die Räuber'' (as Kosinsky) and ''Fiesco'' (as Bourgognino). In 1799 Prince-Elector Maximilian IV. Joseph von Bayern called him to Munich as a director. He returned to Mannheim in 1803 as theater director, dying there in 1803. Beck was known for his acting skill and his good voice and acted with the same finesse in tragedies and comedies as in musicals. Beck's Brewery, also known as Brauerei Beck & Co., is a brewery in the northern German city of Bremen. In 2001, Interbrew bought Brauerei Beck for 1.8 billion euros; at that time it was the fourth largest brewer in Germany. US manufacture of Beck's has been based in St. Louis, Missouri, since early 2012. Since 2008, it has been owned by the Interbrew subsidiary Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV. Heinrich Beck (born 2 April 1929 - 5 June 2019) was a German philologist who specialized in Germanic studies. A Professor of Ancient German and Nordic Studies at Saarland University and later the University of Bonn, Beck was a co-editor of the second edition of ''Reallexikon der Germanischen Altertumskunde'' and one of the world's leading experts on early Germanic culture. Biography Hermann Beck was born Nördlingen, Germany on 2 April 1929. Gaining his abitur in Munich in 1949, Beck studied German, Scandinavian and linguistics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and Reykjavík University. He gained his PhD in Nordic philology and Germanic studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 1962.
