Heide, Kalmthout
Heide is a village in the municipality of Kalmthout (Belgium). The village is situated south of Kalmthout on railway line 12, linking Antwerp with Roosendaal in the Netherlands. The village also lies on the border of the Kalmthout Heath nature reserve. Two national roads, the N111 and N122, run on either side of the village. Railway connections are available from the Heide railway station situated in the town centre. Saint Joseph
Joseph (; el, Ἰωσήφ, translit=Ioséph) was a 1st-century Jewish man of Nazareth who, according to the canonical Gospels, was married to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and was the legal father of Jesus. Antwerp–Lage Zwaluwe Railway
The Antwerp–Lage Zwaluwe railway (railway line 12 in the Belgian numbering plan) is an international railway line running from Antwerp in Belgium to Lage Zwaluwe in the Netherlands. The line was opened between 1854 and 1876. Eugène Colson (Charleroi, 1913 - Antwerp, 2000), known by the alias "Harry", was a noted member of the Belgian Resistance during World War II. Brigadier William Denis Whitaker, (February 27, 1915 – May 30, 2001) was a Canadian athlete, soldier, businessman, and author. Early life Born in Calgary, Alberta and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Whitaker was educated at the University of Toronto Schools and later at the Royal Military College of Canada, student # 2357 in Kingston, Ontario. He graduated in 1933. He was a quarterback for the Hamilton Tigers of the Ontario Rugby Football Union. He joined the Canadian Army and accepted a commission, as a second lieutenant with The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry (Wentworth Regiment) in 1937. Military career During the Second World War, Whitaker was awarded the Distinguished Service Order at the rank of captain for his achievement in the Dieppe Raid in August 1942. He was the only one of the 100 officers who landed on the beach to fight his way into town and escape unwounded. Kalmthout Heath
The Kalmthout Heath ( nl, Kalmthoutse Heide) is one of the oldest and largest nature reserves of Flanders, bordering the Netherlands and part of the Dutch-Belgian cross-border park De Zoom – Kalmthoutse Heide. It used to be part of a vastly larger European heath landscape. Its name stems from its location: the Belgian municipality Kalmthout.
