Hegra Fortress
Hegra Fortress ( no, Hegra festning) is a small mountain fortress in the village of Hegra in the municipality of Stjørdal in Trøndelag county, Norway. Originally known as ''Ingstadkleiven Fort'' (also ''Ingstadkleiva Fort''), it was built between 1908–1910 as a border fort as a defence against the perceived threat of a Swedish invasion. Hegra
HEGRA, which stands for ''High-Energy-Gamma-Ray Astronomy'', was an atmospheric Cherenkov telescope for Gamma-ray astronomy. With its various types of detectors, HEGRA took data between 1987 and 2002, at which point it was dismantled in order to build its successor, MAGIC, at the same site. It was located at Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma at a height of 2200 m above sea level. It was operated by an international collaboration of research institutes and universities, such as the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich, the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the German Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics, the University of Wuppertal, the IFKKI in Kiel or the University of Hamburg. Stjørdalen is a valley and a traditional district in Trøndelag county, Norway. The valley follows the river Stjørdalselva river from the border with Sweden to the west where it empties into the Trondheimsfjorden. The valley traverses the present-day municipalities of Stjørdal and Meråker. The European route E14 highway and the Meråker Line railway follow the river through the length of the valley. In the military science of fortification, wire obstacles are defensive obstacles made from barbed wire, barbed tape or concertina wire. Recoil (often called knockback, kickback or simply kick) is the rearward thrust generated when a gun is being discharged. Ørje Fortress (''Ørje fortene'') lies in Marker municipality in Viken county, Norway. The construction of the fort started in December 1901 and was completed the following year. The fortification guarded the heavily trafficked route through the community of Ørje, which was an important entry point from Sweden. The fortifications consist of two parts: the northern fort and southern fort. The northern fort (''Ørjekollen fort'') lay southwest from the Ørje bridge and sluice (''Ørje sluser'') on the Halden Canal. The southern fort (''Lihammeren fort'') was at Likollen, 1 km further south. Both were positioned on elevated positions and were armed with four canons.
