Hector Munro (surveyor)
Hector Munro (23 September 1859 – 18 December 1930) was the eldest son of George Munro, born on 'Boondooma Station', Queensland, which was managed by his father. He was educated at Ipswich Grammar School and finished his education becoming a qualified surveyor. His childhood at 'Boondooma' was spent in the company of the local aboriginal people, the Wakka. This instilled a lifelong interest in aboriginal culture, language and mores. An avid photographer, he has left a lasting legacy of both written work and photographs of aboriginals, particularly around the Bunya Mountains. He worked as a surveyor in northern Queensland and then spent most of the rest of his working life surveying most of the lands in the South Burnett region including years of work in the Bunya Mountains. Bunya Mountains
The Bunya Mountains are a distinctive set of peaks forming an isolated section of the Great Dividing Range in southern Queensland. The mountain range forms the northern edge of the Darling Downs in the locality also called Bunya Mountains near Bell and Dalby. The mountains are south of Kingaroy and just to the south west of Nanango. The range is the remains of a shield volcano which was built from numerous basalt lava flows about 23-24 million years ago. In 2009 as part of the Q150 celebrations, the Bunya Mountains was announced as one of the Q150 Icons of Queensland for its role as a "Natural attraction". The South Burnett is a peanut growing and wine-producing area on the Great Dividing Range, north of the Darling Downs, in Queensland. It is with the basin of the Burnett River. The area is within two local government areas, South Burnett Region and Gympie Region. Nanango is a rural town and locality in the South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Nanango had a population of 3,599 people. Geography Nanango is situated north-west of the state capital, Brisbane, at the junction of the D'Aguilar Highway with the Burnett Highway. Sandy Creek () meanders through the town. The locality is part of the Burnett River catchment. The productive lands of the catchment feature sedimentary floodplains.
