Hec McDonald
Hec McDonald was a rugby league player from New Zealand. In 1924 he represented New Zealand in 3 tests against England and in so doing became Kiwi number 165. Playing career Waikato beginnings Hec McDonald began playing rugby league around the age of 21 for the Frankton Albions in 1921 where he is mentioned as being "a new man" after an appearance against Pirates on May 21. In 1922 he played for a large number of teams including the newly formed Matangi club side, the Cambridge sub union team, the Rotorua sub union team and the Bay of Plenty side against the touring New South Wales team. He played for Matangi from May through to July in the fledgling Cambridge league competition. In a match against Athletics he was involved in 3 tries in a 23–0 win. The following weekend he played in a 5–3 loss to Suburbs where he was described as "a hard man to beat, playing on the ball well". City Rovers
The City Newton Dragons are a defunct New Zealand rugby league club that was based at Victoria Park, Auckland. The club was created in 1948 by a merger of two original clubs, the City Rovers and Newton Rangers. Both the Rovers and the Rangers participated in the inaugural Auckland Rugby League competition in 1910. In 2004, the club was absorbed by the Ponsonby Ponies, who play a match in the City Newton colours annually to keep the heritage of the club alive. The ''Auckland Star'' was an evening daily newspaper published in Auckland, New Zealand, from 24 March 1870 to 16 August 1991. Basin Reserve
The Basin Reserve (commonly known as "The Basin") is a cricket ground in Wellington, New Zealand. It has been used for Test matches, and is the main home ground for the Wellington Firebirds first-class team. The Basin Reserve is the only cricket ground to have New Zealand Historic Place status ( Category II) as it is the oldest Test cricket ground in the country. The ground has been used for events other than cricket, such as concerts, sports events and other social gatherings, but now it is mostly used for cricket, particularly Test matches. On 1 October 2021, Cello Communications, a Wellington-based telecommunications company was appointed as the naming rights partner of the ground, thus the commercial name of the stadium became the Cello Basin Reserve as part of a two-year agreement. The England national rugby league team represents England in international rugby league. The team, largely formed from the Great Britain team which also represented Wales and Scotland, is run under the auspices of the Rugby Football League. It participates in the Rugby League World Cup, Four Nations and Test matches. The team dates to 1904, when they played against a mixture of Welsh and Scottish players in Wigan. Nelson Bass (1894–1963) was a New Zealand rugby league player who represented New Zealand in four test matches between 1919 and 1921. Playing career Bass played for the Newton Rangers club in the Auckland Rugby League competition for 4 seasons (1919–1922) before transferring to the Marist Old Boys in 1923. He again transferred at the conclusion of the 1923 season, this time to the City Rovers. Bass played in four test matches for New Zealand between 1919 and 1921, against Australia and Great Britain.
