The Heathcote Railway line was a railway line linking Bendigo and Heathcote Junction. In 1975 it was chosen to dismantle the railway line and today, only several trestle bridges remain. History The line was authorised in 1881, and construction began in 1888. Axedale Railway Station
The Axedale railway station was a railway station on the former Heathcote railway line in Victoria, servicing the town of Axedale. The station opened with the railway line in October 1888. The station site had been severely criticised for its distance from both Axedale township and Axedale Racecourse, with unsuccessful calls to re-site the station closer to the town. It faced further calls to relocate the station in 1890, following the opening of a picnic siding closer to Axedale than the station. During its first month of operation, more than a thousand tons of goods passed through the station. However, by 1901, the Acting Commissioner of Railways cabled that the passenger traffic at Axedale was "not sufficient to justify any expenditure on the station buildings". Despite this, the Shire of Strathfieldsaye council continued to lobby for better passenger facilities and the construction of cattle pits at the station. Pyalong is a town in central Victoria, Australia. The town is located on the Northern Highway, in the Shire of Mitchell local government area, from the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Pyalong had a population of 459. In 2016 the population had reached 660. The traditional owners of Pyalong are the Taungurung people, a part of the Kulin nation that inhabited a large portion of central Victoria including Port Phillip Bay and its surrounds. The first Europeans to settle in the area were Captain George Brunswick Smyth and Lieutenant Alfred Miller Mundy who were operating the Pyalong station by August 1838, and William Hamilton who occupied the adjacent Glenaroua run at the same time.
