Noel Pagan, also known simply as Noel, (born 1965) is an American freestyle music singer born in the Bronx, New York City. His debut single, " Silent Morning", became his first Top 10 hit on the dance singles chart and peaked at No. 47 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 1987. Career Noel's 1987 debut single " Silent Morning" reached No. 47 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. His second single, " Like a Child", peaked at No. 67 in 1988, but it became his first number-one single on the dance chart. Also in 1988, Noel released his self-titled debut album, which peaked at No. 126 on the ''Billboard'' 200. He topped the dance charts again later that year with " Out of Time". In 1990, Noel worked with Tony Moran on his project Concept of One, with Noel being the featured vocalist. Freestyle music, also called Latin freestyle or Latin hip-hop ''(sic)'' is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the New York metropolitan area and Philadelphia, primarily among Hispanic Americans and Italian Americans in the 1980s. "Donna" is a song written by Ritchie Valens, featuring the '50s progression. The song was released in 1958 on Del-Fi Records. Written as a tribute to his high school sweetheart Donna Ludwig, it was Valens' highest-charting single, reaching No. 2 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart the following year. Ritchie Valens
Richard Steven Valenzuela (May 13, 1941 – February 3, 1959), known professionally as Ritchie Valens, was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. A rock and roll pioneer and a forefather of the Chicano rock movement, Valens was killed in a plane crash eight months into his music career. Valens had several hits, most notably " La Bamba", which he had adapted from a Mexican folk song. Valens transformed the song into one with a rock rhythm and beat, and it became a hit in 1958, making Valens a pioneer of the Spanish-speaking rock and roll movement. He also had an American number-two hit with "Donna". On February 3, 1959, on what has become known as "The Day the Music Died", Valens died in a plane crash in Iowa, an accident that also claimed the lives of fellow musicians Buddy Holly and J. P.
