Heart Of Iowa Conference
The Heart of Iowa Conference is a high school athletic conference in central Iowa that dates back to the 1970s. Members are a mixture between 3A and 2A, the second- and third-largest classes. Current members History The conference was formed in 1966 by Ballard, Nevada, South Hamilton,Perry Community School and West Marshall after the disbanding of the Hawkeye Central Conference. In 1967, Carlisle, Johnston and North Polk joined, and in 1970, Roland–Story joined from the West Central Conference. As of 1992, the league had 10 schools in it. Bondurant–Farrar, Collins–Maxwell–Baxter, Colo–NESCO, Gilbert, Madrid, Ogden, and Woodward-Granger had joined, while Carlisle, Johnston, Nevada, and North Polk had departed. Colfax–Mingo and Pleasantville were added to the conference in 1997, following the demise of the Des Moines River Conference. Pleasantville then left the league in 2001, and North Polk rejoined. Iowa High School Athletic Association
The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics. Sports overseen by the IHSAA are baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and wrestling. As classifications vary highly across sports, they are included under the individual sport section. Colfax–Mingo Community School District
Colfax–Mingo Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Colfax, Iowa. Located in Jasper County, it serves Colfax, Mingo, Ira, Valeria, and the portion of Mitchellville in Jasper County. The Colfax and Mingo school districts consolidated on July 1, 1985. History The Poweshiek township school district (including Mingo) was organized by 1849. The independent district of Colfax was formed in April, 1876. Later that year, a bond was passed for $3,500 for the erection of a suitable school building in Colfax. In 1910, the Colfax school had 15 teachers and an enrollment of 706, and the Poweshiek township schools had an enrollment of 244. The Ogden Community School District, or Ogden Community Schools, is a public school district headquartered in Ogden, Iowa. The district is completely within in Boone County. The district serves Ogden, Beaver, Berkley, and the surrounding rural areas. Dr. Pam Dodge has served as superintendent since 2018, after serving as a principal in the Ankeny Community School District for six years. Beginning in 2020, the district entered an agreement with United Community School District to share a superintendent. Dr. Dodge is serving as superintendent for both districts. Gilbert Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Gilbert, Iowa. The district is mostly in Story County but has a portion in Boone County. The district serves Gilbert and sections of northern Ames. The district covers 48 square miles. Colo–NESCO Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Colo, Iowa. Its elementary school is in Zearing while the middle-high school and district headquarters are in Colo. The district is mostly in Story County with portions in Hardin and Marshall counties. West Central Activities Conference (Iowa)
The West Central Activities Conference is a high school athletic conference made up of 2A and 3A schools in Central Iowa. Currently there are 13 men's programs and 12 women's programs in the league. Members History The current West Central Conference was formed in 1981 with eight members: Van Meter, Guthrie Center, Panora-Linden, Earlham, Martensdale-St. Mary's, Stuart-Menlo, Adair–Casey and Dexfield (Redfield). Prior to this time a different league known as the West Central Conference existed, but none of its members were founders of the new West Central Conference. Throughout the 1980s, the league added Coon Rapids–Bayard and Nodaway Valley, and Panora-Linden began sharing with Y-J-B under the name Panorama. North Polk Community School District
The North Polk Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Alleman, Iowa. Almost all of the district is in Polk County, with small sections in Boone and Story counties.
