Health Services Laboratories (HSL) is an independent provider of pathology and diagnostic services to the NHS. Formed in 2015, it is a partnership betweeThe Doctors Laboratory University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The Doctors Laboratory is the longest-established specialist provider of clinically-led pathology services in the UK and is based in central London. It is owned by Sonic Healthcare, an Australian company providing pathology and radiology services. HSL's flagship laboratory, the Halo, is based at 1 Mabledon Place, in the heart of London's 'med-city', and is one of the largest pathology laboratories in Europe. North Middlesex Hospital
North Middlesex University Hospital, known locally as North Mid, is a district general hospital in Edmonton in the London Borough of Enfield. The hospital is managed by North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. History The hospital was established as the infirmary for the workhouse at Langhedge Field: it opened on 25 July 1910, and was separated from the workhouse itself by an iron fence, although the two shared a common gate, which still stands today. In 1915 the complex was handed over to the military for use as a military hospital, known as Edmonton Military Hospital. Following its transfer back into civilian hands in 1920, the hospital became the North Middlesex Hospital. Patrick Carter, Baron Carter Of Coles
Patrick Robert Carter, Baron Carter of Coles (born 9 February 1946) was chairman of the review panel examining the future of NHS pathology (reported in 2016). He reviewed the procurement of legal aid in England and Wales (reported in 2006), and was chair of Sport England until September 2006. He co-founded private nursing home company Westminster Health Care in 1985 with Martin Bradford. He was educated at Brentwood School, Essex. North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is an NHS trust which runs North Middlesex University Hospital in Edmonton, London and community services in Enfield. The two main public bodies responsible for health in England are NHS England and Public Health England (PHE). NHS England oversees the budget, planning, delivery and day-to-day operation of the commissioning side of the NHS in England, while PHE's mission is "to protect and improve the nation's health and to address inequalities". As of 14 September 2021, there have been 6,237,505 total cases and 117,955 deaths in England. In January 2021, it was estimated around 22% of people in England have had COVID-19. Private Providers Of NHS Services
The private provision of NHS services has been controversial since at least 1990. Keep Our NHS Public, NHS Support Federation and other groups have campaigned against the threat of privatisation, largely in England. The 1997 Labour Party manifesto made a specific commitment to end the Conservatives’ internal market in health care, but in government they retained the split between purchasers and providers of healthcare.
