Health Leads
Health Leads is a national non-profit organization based in Boston with a stated vision of "health, dignity, and well-being for every person, in every community." The organization runs community-based programs and learning initiatives across the U.S. that focus on addressing social, racial, and economic factors that impact health. Health Leads facilitates the treatment of underlying social and environmental causes of patients' health problems by working with doctors in participating clinics on "prescriptions" for things such as food, fuel assistance, housing or other resources for their patients; the same way they might prescribe medication. Patients then work with an onsite trained volunteer to access public benefits and community resources to fulfill these "prescriptions". Rebecca Onie
Rebecca Onie (born 1977) is the co-founder with Rocco J Perla of The Health Initiative, a nationwide effort to spur a new conversation about - and new investments in - health. In 2017, she was elected to the National Academy of Medicine as a nationally recognized leader in the intersection of social determinants, population health, and healthcare delivery. MacArthur Fellows Program
The MacArthur Fellows Program, also known as the MacArthur Fellowship and commonly but unofficially known as the "Genius Grant", is a prize awarded annually by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation typically to between 20 and 30 individuals, working in any field, who have shown "extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction" and are citizens or residents of the United States. According to the foundation's website, "the fellowship is not a reward for past accomplishment, but rather an investment in a person's originality, insight, and potential," but it also says such potential is "based on a track record of significant accomplishments."
