The Headquarters of the French Communist Party (french: Siège du Parti communiste français) are located at 2 Place du Colonel Fabien in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. The lead architect was Oscar Niemeyer, who had designed many buildings in Brazil's new capital Brasília. Description It was designed in 1966 and works began in 1968. The building was inaugurated in 1971; its external dome was not fully completed until 1980. It was built in concrete and has curves. The dome, where the party's National Council sits, represents a pregnant woman according to the architect. Niemeyer, himself a communist, designed the building while living in exile in France during the military dictatorship in Brazil. In 2007, the building was classed as a ''monument historique''. The French Communist Party (french: Parti communiste français, ''PCF'' ; ) is a political party in France which advocates the principles of communism. The PCF is a member of the Party of the European Left, and its MEPs sit in the European United Left–Nordic Green Left group. Pierre Laurent (born 1 July 1957) is a French politician and journalist. Ex-director of ''L'Humanité'', and former leader of the French Communist Party (PCF). Career His father, Paul Laurent, was a member of the National Assembly of France for Paris and a high-ranking official of the French Communist Party. Pierre Laurent joined the Union of Communist Students (UEC) when he was studying economics in Paris. He was National Secretary of UEC from 1982 to 1985. Alain Souchon (; born Alain Édouard Kienast ; 27 May 1944) is a French singer-songwriter and actor. He has released 15 albums and has played roles in seven films.
