Leslie Goodwins
Leslie Goodwins (17 September 1899 – 8 January 1969) was an English film director and screenwriter. He directed nearly 100 films between 1926 and 1967, notably 27 features and shorts with Leon Errol, including the Mexican Spitfire series. His 1936 film '' Dummy Ache'' was nominated for an Academy Award in 1936 for Best Short Subject (Two-Reel). ''Dummy Ache'' was preserved by the Academy Film Archive and the Library of Congress in 2013. His 1937 film '' Should Wives Work?'' (starring Errol) was also nominated for an Academy Award in the same category. He was born in London, England and he died in Hollywood, California. Goodwins began his screen career in the waning years of silent films, as a gag writer and then director. He directed comedy stars Snub Pollard and Ben Turpin for the low-budget Weiss Brothers studio. Jack Ingram (actor)
John Samuel Ingram (November 15, 1902 – February 20, 1969) was an American film and television actor. He appeared in many serials and Westerns between 1935 and 1966. Biography Ingram served in the U.S. Army in France. After leaving the military, he gave up plans to study law and instead joined a traveling minstrel show. He acted in stock theater with several companies before going into film. Ingram first appeared on screen in a bit part in ''Westward Ho'' (1935). His first film credit came in the serial ''Zorro Rides Again'' (1937). In addition to acting, Ingram was a stunt man, working with horses and cars in films in the early 1930s. He was born in Frankfort, Illinois, and died in Canoga Park, California, of a heart attack. He was interred in the Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Chatsworth, California. Eleanor Stewart
Eleanor Stewart (February 2, 1913 – July 4, 2007), was an American film actress of the 1930s and 1940s, appearing mostly in western films. Born in Chicago, Stewart attended Northwestern University. She worked as a model, and after winning a talent contest she moved to Hollywood in the mid-1930s. Initially on contract with MGM, she eventually worked freelance for various studios, starring often as the heroine opposite Bob Steele, Tex Ritter, Jack Randall, Bob Custer, Ken Maynard and Tom Keene, among others. She is probably best known for her role in the serial ''The Fighting Devil Dogs'', which was released throughout 1938. During the 1940s she did three Hopalong Cassidy films. During World War II, she was a Gray Lady volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles. She was also a voice actor and a writer. John Merton (born Myrtland F. LaVarre; February 18, 1901 – September 19, 1959) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 250 films between 1927 and 1959, mostly as a villain. He was the brother of filmmaker André de la Varre and William LaVarre and the grandfather of actress Diane Delano. Biography Born and raised in Seattle with three other brothers, Franklin, Claude, and William LaVarre, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He joined the New York Theatre Guild in 1919 and appeared in a variety of shows. He made his film debut as a police officer in '' Running Wild'' (1927) filmed in Long Island's Astoria Studios.
