Twin Reversed Arterial Perfusion
Twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence, also called TRAP sequence, TRAPS, or acardiac twinning, is a rare complication of monochorionic twin pregnancies. It is a severe variant of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). In addition to the twins' blood systems being connected instead of independent, one twin, called the acardiac twin, TRAP fetus or acardius, is severely malformed. The heart is missing or deformed, hence the name "acardiac", as are the upper structures of the body. The legs may be partially present or missing, and internal structures of the torso are often poorly formed. The other twin is usually normal in appearance. The normal twin, called the pump twin, drives blood through both fetuses. It is called "reversed arterial perfusion" because in the acardiac twin the blood flows in a reversed direction. TRAP sequence occurs in 1% of monochorionic twin pregnancies and 1 in 35,000 pregnancies overall. Acardiac twin The acardiac twin is a parasitic twin that fail ...

Headless Men
Various species of mythical headless men were rumoured, in antiquity and later, to inhabit remote parts of the world. They are variously known as ''akephaloi'' (Greek ἀκέφαλοι, "headless ones") or Blemmyes ( la, Blemmyae; gr, βλέμμυες) and described as lacking a head, with their facial features on their chest. These were at first described as inhabitants of ancient Libya or the Nile system (Aethiopia). Later traditions confined their habitat to a particular island in the Brisone River, or shifted it to India. Blemmyes are said to occur in two types: with eyes on the chest or with the eyes on the shoulders. Etymology Various etymologies had been proposed for the origins of the name "Blemmyes", and the question is considered unsettled. In antiquity, the actual tribe known as the Blemmyes were said to be named eponymously after King Blemys (Βλέμυς), according to Nonnus's 5th century epic '' Dionysiaca'', but no lore about headlessness is attached to th ...

Headless Line
An acephalous or headless line is a variety of catalectic line in a poem which does not conform to its accepted metre, due to the first syllable's omission. Acephalous lines are usually deliberate variations in scansion, but this is not always obvious. It is a technique employed often in the concluding lines of hymn texts, and has been employed in poetry to change tone or announce a conclusion, including its use in Joyce Kilmer's "Trees" and A. E. Housman's "To An Athlete Dying Young." Robert Wallace argues in his essay "Meter in English" that the term ''acephalous line'' seems "pejorative", as if criticising the poet's violation of scansion, but this view is not widely held among critics. Acephalous lines are common in anapestic metre, especially in limerick Limerick ( ; ga, Luimneach ) is a western city in Ireland situated within County Limerick. ''Slant'' magazine was critical of ''Tripper'', commenting that "there's a certain threshold for this kind of demanding material before it gets tiring. It's one that ''Tripper'', staunchly dominated by an old-school style of wanky craftsmanship, crosses pretty quickly." Other reviewers ...

Mike The Headless Chicken
Mike the Headless Chicken (April 20, 1945March 17, 1947) was a male Wyandotte chicken that lived for 18 months after his head had been cut off. After the loss of his head, Mike achieved national fame until his death in March 1947. In Fruita, Colorado, an annual "Mike the Headless Chicken Day" is held every May. Beheading On September 10, 1945, farmer Lloyd Olsen of Fruita, Colorado, was planning to eat supper with his mother-in-law and was sent out to the yard by his wife to bring back a chicken. Olsen chose a five-and-a-half-month-old Wyandotte chicken named Mike. The axe removed the bulk of the head, but missed the jugular vein, leaving one ear and most of the brain stem intact. Due to Olsen's failed attempt to behead Mike, the chicken was still able to balance on a perch and walk clumsily. He attempted to preen, peck for food, and crow, though with limited success; his "crowing" consisted of a gurgling sound made in his throat. When Mike did not die, Olsen instead decided t ...
