Headfort School
Headfort School, first established in 1949 by Lord and Lady Headfort at Headfort House near Kells, County Meath, is Ireland's only remaining preparatory boarding school. It closed in March 2020 but a new operation under the same name opened in September of that year, with a new headmaster. In September 2021 a new Headmaster, Philip McCormick, was appointed. Location The school is located at Headfort House, outside the town of Kells, County Meath, some 75 km north west of Dublin. The central part of the house and the western wing was historically rented by the school's operating company from the charitable Headfort Trust; the eastern wing of the house forms a separate residence, Headfort Court. Grounds which once exceeded 1000 acres have been reduced by sale and development, and the school utilises 60 acres, the bulk of the remaining gardens and grounds. Marquess Of Headfort
Marquess of Headfort is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1800 for Thomas Taylour, 2nd Earl of Bective. The Marquess holds the subsidiary titles of Earl of Bective (1766), Viscount Headfort (1762), Baron Headfort, of Headfort in the County of Meath, (1760), and Baron Kenlis, of Kenlis in the County of Meath (1831), all but the last in the Peerage of Ireland. He is also an Irish baronet. Before the passage of the House of Lords Act 1999, the Marquess sat in the House of Lords as Baron Kenlis in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The family descends from Thomas Taylor, who came to Ireland during the 1650s from Sussex in England to oversee on behalf of Parliament the fiscal expenditure of Oliver Cromwell's campaign in Ireland and later undertook the duties of a cartographer assisting with Sir William Petty's project of mapping Ireland, known as the Down Survey. Sam Watson (born 28 December 1985) is an Irish eventing rider. Representing Ireland, he has competed at three editions of World Equestrian Games (in 2010, 2014 and 2018). His best achievements came at the 2018 edition of the Games, held in Tryon, North Carolina, where he won a silver medal with an Irish team and placed 14th individually. Charlie Swan (horse Trainer)
Charlie Swan (born 20 January 1968) is a former top National Hunt jockey in Ireland in the 1990s. He is associated with the great Istabraq, on whom he won three Champion Hurdles. He was twice top jockey at the Cheltenham Festival and was champion National Hunt jockey in Ireland for nine consecutive years. After retiring as a jockey he spent several years a trainer, based in Modreeny near Cloughjordan, County Tipperary. First and only son to Donald Swan, a former British Army Captain, and his wife Teresa, Charlie was named after an ancestor who was the surgeon to the British King 'Bonnie Prince Charlie'. Clare Mary Alice Shillington (born 8 January 1981) is an Irish former cricketer and the current coach of Typhoons. She played as a right-handed batter and appeared in 1 Test match, 90 One Day Internationals and 56 Twenty20 Internationals for Ireland between 1997 and 2018. Randal Plunkett, 21st Baron of Dunsany (born 9 March 1983), is an Irish film director, producer and editor, as well as a landowner and holder of one of the oldest surviving Irish peerage titles, and one of the longest-inhabited houses in Ireland, Dunsany Castle, and its remaining estate. Robert Bathurst
Robert Guy Bathurst (born 22 February 1957) is an English actor. Bathurst was born in The Gold Coast (now Ghana) in 1957, where his father was working as a management consultant. In 1959 his family moved to Ballybrack, Dublin, Ireland and Bathurst attended school in Killiney and later was enrolled at Headfort, an Irish boarding school.
