Hazem Hosny
Hazem Hosny (also spelled Hazem Hosni) is an Egyptian political scientist. He was Professor of Political Science at Cairo University. Criticism of Sisi Hazem Hosny has criticised the policies of Abdel Fatah al-Sisi with Mahmoud Refaat. In January 2018 he supported Sami Anan's bid to contest Sisi in the 2018 Egyptian presidential election. Arrest Hosny was arrested without a warrant and held incommunicado in late September 2019 during the 2019 Egyptian protests. His legal defence team called for him to be released immediately. Hosny had earlier described Mohamed Ali, who earlier in September published videos accusing Sisi of corruption and calling for street protests, as playing a "positive role" and described the new protest movement as having the potential to affect the "international formula that largely determines Sisi's continued rule". Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi
Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi; (born 19 November 1954) is an Egyptian politician and retired military officer who has served as the sixth and current president of Egypt since 2014. Before retiring as a general in the Egyptian military in 2014, Sisi served as Egypt’s deputy prime minister from 2013 to 2014, as its minister of defense from 2012 to 2013, and as its director of military intelligence from 2010 to 2012. He was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal in January 2014. Sisi was born in Cairo in 1954. Mahmoud Refaat
Mahmoud Refaat (Arabic: محمود رفعت, romanized: Mahmood Rifaat; born April 25, 1978) is an international relations scholar (president of the European Institute for International Law and International Relations), writer, and lawyer. Refaat was born in Cairo in Egypt. He managed the presidential campaign of former Egyptian Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Sami Anan during 2018 Egyptian presidential election. Sami Hafez Anan
Lieutenant General Sami Hafez Anan or Enan ( ar, سامى حافظ عنان, ; born 2 February 1948) is an Egyptian military officer. He was the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces from 2005 until August 2012, until his retirement was announced by President Mohamed Morsi. In January 2018, he announced himself as a candidate in the 2018 Egyptian presidential election before being arrested for violating the military rules for announcing his candidacy without seeking the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces approval, which "constituted clear incitement against the armed forces with the intention of driving a wedge between it and the great Egyptian people." 2018 Egyptian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Egypt between 26 and 28 March 2018, though Egyptians abroad voted from 16 to 18 March 2018. On 19 January, incumbent President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi formally announced he would run for a second and final term. El-Sisi won the election with 97%, according to the official results. A runoff would have taken place 19 to 21 April outside the country and 24 to 26 April within the country if no candidate had reached 50% of the vote. The election had a turnout of roughly 41%, lower than the 2014 election's 47%. A 2019 constitutional change allowed El-Sisi to remain in power until 2030 instead of 2022. Fourteen human rights groups dismissed the poll as "farcical." 2019 Egyptian Protests
The 2019 Egyptian protests were mass protests in Cairo, Alexandria, Damietta and other cities on 20, 21 and 27 September 2019 in which the protestors called for President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to be removed from power. Security forces responded with tear gas, rubber bullets and, , arbitrary arrests had been made, based on data from the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights, the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms, the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, among which 111 were minors according to Amnesty International and the Belady Foundation. Prominent arrestees included human rights lawyer Mahienour el-Massry, journalist and former leader of the Constitution Party Khaled Dawoud and two professors of political science at Cairo University, Hazem Hosny and Hassan Nafaa. Mohamed Ali (Egyptian Contractor)
Mohamed Ali (also: ''Aly''; born 18 January 1978) is an Egyptian building contractor living in exile in Spain who worked for 15 years with Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Sisi's colleagues building villas and a palace. In September 2019, Ali circulated videos accusing Sisi of corruption. The online circulation of videos snowballed, with others including Wael Ghonim joining in the anti-Sisi criticism. Ali called for mass anti-Sisi street protests which started on 20 September 2019 across Egypt.
