Hayton And Mealo
Hayton and Mealo is a civil parish in Allerdale district, Cumbria. The only settlement is Hayton, a village in the centre of the parish, which had a population of 237 in the 2011 census. In 1848, its population was 378. The parish has an area of . The western boundary of the parish is a short stretch of coastline south of Allonby; working clockwise it is then bordered by Allonby parish to the north, Westnewton to the north east, Aspatria to the east and Oughterside and Allerby to the south. The B5300 road runs along the western edge of the parish, on the coast, and the A596 road from Aspatria to Maryport runs just outside the parish's south eastern boundary. There is a parish council, forming the lowest level of local government. Its archives 1997-2013 are held at the Carlisle Archive Centre. A596 Road
The A596 is a primary route in Cumbria, in northern England, that runs between Thursby ( north-east of Wigton) and Workington. For its entirety the A596 parallels the A595, and meets the A595 at both ends. The A596 begins its course at a roundabout junction with the A595 at Thursby, before continuing past the towns of Wigton and Aspatria. As it travels further towards the coast, it reaches the town of Maryport, where there is a junction to the B5300 heading up the coast to Silloth via Allonby, Mawbray, and Beckfoot. It then crosses over the River Derwent, skirting the eastern edge of Workington shortly before terminating at the junction with the A595 at Lillyhall. Hayton Castle
Hayton Castle is a fortified house situated to the North-East of the village of Hayton in Cumbria. Preface The castle is a 14th- or 15th-century tower house; extended in the 16th and 17th centuries and converted into a house. Hayton Castle is a simple rectangular house, with windows from three periods – 15th Century, Elizabethan and Georgian. There are very thick walls, and there's a barrel vault in the basement – indicating a fortified house. During the 17th century it was occupied by a branch of the Musgrave family. It was officially listed as a Grade I building on 11 April 1967. Cumbria Archive Service serves the English county of Cumbria. Rather than having just one county record office, Cumbria County Council operates four local record offices, now known as archive centres, in Barrow-in-Furness, Carlisle, Kendal and Whitehaven. Maryport is a town and civil parish in the Allerdale borough of Cumbria, England, historically in Cumberland. The town is situated just outside the Lake District National Park, at the northern end of the former Cumberland Coalfield. The B5300 (known locally as the Coast Road) is a B road which runs for approximately twelve miles between the towns of Silloth and Maryport in the Allerdale borough of Cumbria, United Kingdom. From north to south, it passes through the villages of Blitterlees, Beckfoot, Mawbray, Dubmill, and Allonby. Aspatria is a town and civil parish in the non-metropolitan district of Allerdale, and is currently embraced in the Parliamentary constituency of Workington, Cumbria, England. Historically within Cumberland the town rests on the north side of the Ellen Valley, overlooking a panoramic view of the countryside, with Skiddaw to the South and the Solway Firth to the North.
