Haydon, Dorset
Haydon is a village and civil parish north of Dorchester, in the Dorset district, in the county of Dorset, England. In 2001 the parish had a population of 44. The parish touches Castleton, Caundle Marsh, Folke, Goathill, North Wootton and Purse Caundle. Features There are three listed buildings in Haydon. Among them is the former St Catherine's Church, which is now in residential use. The small church, in dressed stone with a bell-cote, was built in 1883 to replace an earlier church; it had a medieval piscina A piscina is a shallow basin placed near the altar of a church, or else in the vestry or sacristy, used for washing the communion vessels. Benjamin Haydon
Benjamin Robert Haydon (; 26 January 178622 June 1846) was a British painter who specialised in grand historical pictures, although he also painted a few contemporary subjects and portraits. His commercial success was damaged by his often tactless dealings with patrons, and by the enormous scale on which he preferred to work. He was troubled by financial problems throughout his life, which led to several periods of imprisonment for debt. He died by suicide in 1846. He gave lectures on art, and kept extensive diaries that were published after his death. Life Early years Haydon was born in Plymouth, the only son of another Benjamin Robert Haydon, a prosperous printer, stationer and publisher, and his wife Mary, the daughter of the Rev. Benjamin Cobley, rector of Dodbrooke, near Kingsbridge, Devon. At an early age he showed an aptitude for study, which was carefully fostered by his mother. AFC Wimbledon is an English professional Association football, football club, based in London Borough of Merton, Merton, London, that plays in the EFL League Two, after being relegated from the EFL League One following the 2021–22 EFL League One, 2021–22 season.
