Hayden Shell
Hayden Kevin Shell (23 March 1937 – 1 November 2015) was an Australian politician. He was born in Geelong to Alick Humphrey Shell, a painter, and Florrie Coone. He attended local state schools and became a postmaster. From 1970 to 1974 he was state secretary of the Postal Clerks Union; he also joined the Labor Party in 1971. He was a councillor on Geelong West City Council from 1976 to 1982. In 1982 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly The Victorian Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria in Australia; the upper house being the Victorian Legislative Council. The Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), commonly known as Victorian Labor, is the semi-autonomous Victorian branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). The Victorian branch comprises two major wings: the parliamentary wing and the organisational wing. The parliamentary wing comprising all elected party members in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, which when they meet collectively constitute the party caucus. The parliamentary leader is elected from and by the caucus, and party factions have a strong influence in the election of the leader. The leader's position is dependent on the continuing support of the caucus (and party factions) and the leader may be deposed by failing to win a vote of confidence of parliamentary members. The City of Geelong West was a local government area about west of the regional city of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of , and existed from 1875 until 1993. History Geelong West was first incorporated as a borough on 29 May 1875, and became a town on 22 March 1922. After annexing the Moorpanyal Riding of the Shire of Corio on 9 December 1926, to form its fourth ward (West Ward), it was proclaimed as a city on 17 April 1929. The electoral district of Geelong is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It centres on inner metropolitan Geelong and following the June 2013 redistribution of electoral boundaries includes the suburbs of Belmont, Breakwater, East Geelong, Geelong, Geelong West, Newtown and South Geelong, Herne Hill, Manifold Heights, Newcomb, Newtown, St Albans Park, Thomson, Whittington and part of Fyansford. The seat first existed from 1856 to 1859 as a four-member seat. It was split into Geelong East and Geelong West in 1859, but re-created in 1876 as a three-member seat. It was cut back to a two-member seat in 1889, and became a single-member seat in 1904. It was abolished in 1976, but re-created in 1985. Hayden Birrell
Hayden Wilson Birrell (1923 – 24 December 1994), was an Australian politician. He was born in Geelong to accountant Stanley Wilson Birrell and Alice Hayden George. He was educated at Chilwell and then at Geelong College, graduating at fourteen to become an accountant. He served in the Citizen Military Forces from 1939 to 1941 and in the Royal Australian Navy from 1941 to 1946, in which he was a petty officer. He subsequently returned to work for the State Savings Bank of Victoria, and joined the Liberal Party in 1950, partly motivated by the Labor Party's policy of bank nationalisation. Ann Mary Henderson (; 31 December 1941 – 4 June 2002) was an Australian politician. She was a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1992 to 1999, representing the seat of Geelong for the Liberal Party. She held ministerial office in the government of Jeff Kennett, serving as Minister for Housing and Minister Responsible for Aboriginal Affairs. Early life Henderson was born in Melbourne on 31 December 1941. She was educated at Kilbreda College and Loreto Mandeville Hall.
