The Hayden Building, also known as the Hayden-Clinton Bank Building, is a historic building on Capitol Square in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. Built in 1869, it is one of the oldest remaining commercial buildings on Capitol Square. Broad Street (Columbus, Ohio)
Broad Street is a major thoroughfare in Central Ohio, predominantly in Franklin County and Columbus. It stretches east from West Jefferson at Little Darby Creek to Pataskala. The street is considered one of Columbus's two main roads, along with High Street. Broad Street was first laid out around 1797, when Franklinton was settled. In 1812, when Columbus was founded, a new section of the street was built in the new city. The street first connected to the rest of the settled country in 1831, when the Ohio and Erie Canal reached Columbus. In 1833, the National Road was extended to Columbus, utilizing all of West Broad Street. In the mid-to-late 19th century, East Broad Street became a fashionable place for wealthy homeowners, and large mansions were built along the tree-lined street. Nathan Kelley
Nathan B. Kelley (February 26, 1808 – November 20, 1871) was an American architect and builder. He was a prolific architect whose designs dominated the cityscape of Columbus, Ohio at the middle of the 19th century. Life and work Little personal information exists about Kelley before he began a major commission in 1835 for the Columbus State Hospital, when he was 27 years of age. At about the same time, he was named as construction superintendent of the Ohio State School for the Blind. In the 1840s, city directories list him as surveyor and engineer for the city of Columbus. His most significant works are the interior space and mechanical systems of the Ohio Statehouse. This massive government building was erected between 1839 and 1861, with Kelley serving as one of four principal architects between 1854 and 1858. Capitol Square
Capitol Square is a public square in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. The square includes the Ohio Statehouse, its Capitol Grounds, as well as the buildings and features surrounding the square. The Capitol Grounds are surrounded on the north and west by Broad and High Streets, the main thoroughfares of the city since its founding, forming the city's 100 percent corner.
