Hawash!
''Hawash!'' is a 1984 album by Finnish gospel musician Jaakko Löytty. It is his first album with clear African influences. The title song was inspired by the Oromo musician Ali Mohammed Birra, whom Löytty met in 1976 during the Etiopiasafari tour. Jaakko Löytty
Jaakko Löytty (born 1955, Finland) is one of the most significant Finnish gospel musicians. Löytty spent much of his youth, 12 years, in Namibia, where his parents, Seppo Löytty and Kirsti Löytty worked as missionaries with the Finnish Missionary Society. He went to the Swakopmund Finnish School. He himself has been a missionary with the FMS, to Senegal, where he developed church music and edited a hymnal in the local languages. Löytty works for Herättäjä-Yhdistys, as a regional worker in Satakunta, Varsinais-Suomi and Tavastia. Since 2008, he has lived in Ylöjärvi, where he also lived as a teenager, after his family returned to Finland from Africa in 1968. Löytty is married to author Kaija Pispa. His brothers Sakari Löytty and Mikko Löytty are also musicians. His youngest brother, Olli Löytty, is an academic. Etiopiasafari
"Etiopiasafari" is a 1976 single by Jaakko Löytty, and Jukka Linkoheimo. It was released in support of their tour of Ethiopia the same year. It was released by Kirkon nuorisotyön keskus and , organisations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. During the trip to Ethiopia, the Löyttys and Linkoheimo met in an Addis Abeba nightclub an Oromo musician by the name of Ali Mohammed Birra, and bought from him his LP record. On that LP there is a song about the River Hawash, which later inspired Jaakko Löytty to write a song of the same name that became the title song of his 1984 LP ''Hawash!'' Songs A. The album was commissioned by the Finnish Missionary Society for its 125th anniversary, which was celebrated in Helsinki in June 1984. The album is dedicated to the life work of Leonard Auala, first bishop of the ELCIN church in Namibia. Heikki Johannes Silvennoinen (born 27 April 1954) is a Finnish musician and an actor. He was a guitarist and a songwriter in several notable Finnish bands in the 1970s and 1980s, and has also recorded solo albums. The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. Guitars
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. John Muafangejo
John Ndevasia Muafangejo (born 5 October 1943 in Etunda lo Nghadi, Angola; died 27 November 1987 in Katutura Township, Windhoek) was a Namibian artist who became internationally known as a maker of woodcut prints. He created linocuts, woodcuts and etchings. Biography Muafangejo came from the people of Kwanyama (Kuanjama), who inhabit the northern parts of Ovamboland. As a child, he tended cattle barefoot. 1955 his father died, leaving his mother, who was one of eight wives, with no assets. His mother converted to Christianity and moved in 1956 to the Anglican mission station in Epinga which lay south of the border in Namibia. In 1957 John followed her there and attended the local missionary school. At twenty Muafangejo moved to the Holy Cross School of Mission in Onamunhama, then to the St Mary's School in Odibo.
