Hawaiʻi Rainbow Wāhine Beach Volleyball
The Hawaiʻi Rainbow Wāhine beach volleyball team, more commonly known as the Hawaii SandBows, is the beach volleyball team representing the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in NCAA Division I women's play. History The university has a rich volleyball tradition. They have had three head coaches since the team's inception in 2012. In 2014 under head coach Scott Wong, they appeared in the NCAA Division I Final Four. During the 2015 season, they ranked first in attendance among all Division 1 volleyball beach programs. The "SandBows" averaged over 330 fans, each, for six home matches. With Collegiate Beach's inception, the Bows have been ranked in every AVCA Top 10 Poll to date. 2017 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship
The ''2017 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship'' was the second annual tournament deciding the NCAA championship of beach volleyball, which competition is open to women only. It took place May 5-7 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It was a double elimination tournament, with a single championship match. The USC Trojans won their second consecutive national title, defeating the Pepperdine Waves 3-2 in the championship match. Qualification The tournament is open to teams from Divisions I, II, and III. The top three teams each in the East and West Regions will qualify automatically, and two additional teams will be selected at large. Selections were announced on April 30 on NCAA.com. List Of NCAA Women's Beach Volleyball Programs
These collegiate women's beach volleyball teams compete as members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Currently, 93 college athletic programs sponsor the sport, with one more to do so in a future season. The majority of the participating programs are members of Division I, though some members of divisions II and III also compete. Unlike in most sports for which the NCAA holds championships, one beach volleyball championship is held, made open to members of all three divisions. Current teams As of the 2023 season, these schools sponsor a beach volleyball team that is recognized by the NCAA. All institutions on this list are located within the United States. 2016 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship
The 2016 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship was the first annual tournament to determine the national champion of NCAA women's collegiate beach volleyball in the United States. The tournament was played on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama, hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham, from May 6–8, 2016. The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) had previously sponsored a beach volleyball championship prior to the NCAA's sanctioning of the sport in 2015. Hawaii Rainbow Warriors And Rainbow Wahine
The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wāhine are the athletic teams that represent the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UH), in Honolulu, Hawaii. The UH athletics program is a member of the Big West Conference in most sports and competes at the NCAA Division I level. It comprises seven men's, 12 women's, and two coed athletic teams. Nickname Hawaiʻi athletics began more than a century ago, with the first football team being fielded in 1909. Through 1923, the UH teams were called the "Deans." In the final game of the 1923 season, the football team upset Oregon State, with a rainbow appearing over the stadium during the game. Sportswriters began referring to UH teams as the "Rainbows," and the tradition was born that Hawaii could not lose if a rainbow appeared. Big West Conference
The Big West Conference (BWC) is an American collegiate athletic conference whose member institutions participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The conference was originally formed on July 1, 1969, as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA), and in 1988 was renamed the Big West Conference. The conference stopped sponsoring college football after the 2000 season. Among the conference's 11 member institutions, 10 are located in California (with 9 located in Southern California alone) and one is located in Hawaii.
