Oyonnax
Oyonnax () is the second most populated commune in the Ain department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in eastern France. Oyonnax lies in a valley of the Jura Mountains in the far north of Ain. It is near the Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura. The city is on the river Ange. Its prominence in the plastics industry has earned it the name ''Plastics Valley''. One of thoutstanding achievements of the French Résistanceoccurred here on 11 November 1943, when the Maquis de l'Ain et du Haut-Jura defied the German occupiers to hold an 11 November parade and memorial service in honor of French soldiers from World War I. Arbent () is a commune in the department of Ain in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France. The commune has been awarded two flowers by the ''National Council of Towns and Villages in Bloom'' in the ''Competition of cities and villages in Bloom''. Geography The commune of Arbent is in the extreme north of the department of Ain at the northern edge of the Upper Bugey. It is in the Jura mountains at the door of the Regional Natural Park of Upper Jura. Arbent is about 35 km north-east of Bourg-en-Bresse and 2 km north of Oyonnax. It can be accessed from the south-west by Highway A404 which terminates in the commune. It is also accessed by road D31 from Oyonnax in the south which intersects the termination of the A404 and continues to Dortan in the north-west. Dortan
Dortan () is a commune in the Ain department in eastern France. Besides the village of Dortan itself, the commune includes the hamlets of Uffel, Vouais, Bonaz, Emondeau, Sénissiat and Maissiat. The population was 1,845 in 2014. History This area was settled in the first century AD by the Sequani, a Gallic people. It was on a route used by the Romans and by the seventh century, the Abbaye de Saint-Claude had been established nearby and the area was evangelized. During the feudal period in the ninth century, the counts were Lambert and Geoffroy de Dortenc, and twenty generations of these seignieres followed. The Château de Dortan was built in the fifteenth century as a replacement for the original twelfth century building. It was attacked on many occasions, including by Cardinal Richelieu in 1637.
