Hauraki Mavericks
The Hauraki Mavericks are a New Zealand based field hockey club, originating in the nation's central region. The club was established in 2020, and is one of four established to compete in Hockey New Zealand's new premier domestic competition, the Premier Hockey League. The club unifies both men and women under one name. The Hauraki Mavericks competed for the first time in the inaugural season of Premier Hockey League, where both the men's and women's teams finished in third place in their respective tournaments. History Along with three other teams, the Hauraki Mavericks were founded in 2020 as part of Hockey New Zealand's development of hockey. The team unifies the region from Auckland to Taupō. The team garner their name from a maverick; a person who thinks independently, and "never, ever gives up." National Hockey Centre (Auckland)
The National Hockey Centre, is a government owned outdoor field hockey stadium located in Lyneham, a northern suburb of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. It offers three international standard water-based hockey pitches which are used for both international and domestic competition, as well as training activities. The stadium is home to the Canberra Chill men's and women's hockey teams in Hockey Australia's premier domestic league, the Sultana Bran Hockey One League. Facilities Pitches The National Hockey Centre features three international level synthetic pitches. These include the main pitch, ''Carter Field'' and two secondary pitches, ''Powell Field'' and ''Watt Field''. Nicholas James Woods (born 26 August 1995) is a New Zealand field hockey player who plays as a midfielder for German club Hamburger Polo Club and the New Zealand national team. Amy Robinson (born 19 February 1996) is a two-sport star for New Zealand. She plays field hockey for New Zealand and is also a National Field and Track Athlete. Early life and education Amy Robinson was born in Tauranga, New Zealand. Robinson started participating in athletics at age 4. She started playing field hockey in primary school. Growing up, Robinson played for Tauranga Girls' College and later junior Tauranga alongside future Black Sticks teammate Frances Davies.
