Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface (either indoors or outdoors) while using sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal. The international governing body for bandy is the Federation of International Bandy (FIB). The playing surface, called a bandy field or bandy rink, is a sheet of ice which measures 90–110 meters by 45–65 meters – about the size of a football pitch. The field is considerably larger than the ice rinks commonly used for ice hockey, rink bandy, or figure skating. Bærum () is a municipality in the Greater Oslo Region in Norway that forms an affluent suburb of Oslo on the west coast of the city. The 1993 Bandy World Championship was contested between eight men's bandy playing nations. Russia made its debut, replacing the former Soviet Union. The championship was played in Norway, mostly in Vikingskipet Olympic Arena, from 2 February – 7 February 1993. Sweden became champions.
