Hastings High School (Minnesota)
Hastings High School is one of the oldest operating public high schools in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is in Hastings, and is part of Independent School District 200. About A new multi-million-dollar facility was established in 2001. Its construction centered on a bridge connecting the athletic portion of the school to the academic. Not only does the bridge show this connection between academics and athletics, it illustrates the school's dedication to "connect students to other students, and students to teachers, staff and administrators" The school is known for its strong music program (including its nationally placing show choir, Riverside Company), a freshman orientation program called "Link Crew", athletics, National Honor Society, and service to the community. Hastings, Minnesota
Hastings is a city mostly in Dakota County, Minnesota, of which it is the county seat, with a portion in Washington County, Minnesota. It is near the confluence of the Mississippi River, Mississippi, Vermillion, and St. Croix River (Wisconsin-Minnesota), St. Croix Rivers. Its population was 22,154 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. It is named for the first elected governor of Minnesota, Henry Hastings Sibley. Aaron Fox (born May 19, 1976) is an American ice hockey executive and former professional ice hockey player. Early life Fox was born in Hastings, Minnesota. He attended Minnesota State University, Mankato from 1996 to 2000. During his senior year, he was the team captain of the Minnesota State Mavericks men's ice hockey team. Career Except for short stints with the Milwaukee Admirals of the International Hockey League, and the Peoria Rivermen and Richmond Renegades of the East Coast Hockey League, he spent his professional career abroad, playing in Slovakia, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. While playing for the Vienna Capitals, he led the Austrian Hockey League in scoring in 2007–08. Dean Charles Talafous (born August 25, 1953) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He played 497 regular season games in the National Hockey League (NHL) between 1974 and 1981 for the Atlanta Flames, Minnesota North Stars and New York Rangers as a right winger. College Talafous played for the Wisconsin Badgers where he helped the team win a National Championship in 1973, and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Jeffrey Charles Taffe (born February 19, 1981) is an American former professional ice hockey center. Taffe was drafted in the first round, 30th overall, by the St. Louis Blues in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career After playing three seasons with the University of Minnesota, during which the Blues traded his rights to the Phoenix Coyotes in a deal involving Keith Tkachuk, Taffe made his professional debut with Coyotes' American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Falcons, in the 2002–03 season. He also appeared in 20 NHL games with the Coyotes that same season, scoring three goals. Taffe spent the 2004-05 season as a member of the American Hockey League's Utah Grizzlies. The Arizona Coyotes are a professional ice hockey team based in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Coyotes compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division in the Western Conference and currently play at the Mullett Arena in Tempe. Derek Kenneth Stepan ( ; born June 18, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey center. He is currently under contract with the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). Larry LaCoursiere, alias "Lightning," is a retired professional welterweight boxer from Hastings, Minnesota. Boxing career LaCoursiere made his professional debut with a knockout win against Remuse Caffee at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in Saint Paul, Minnesota on October 24, 1990. After 16 consecutive wins, LaCoursiere took a major step up, facing 12-0 Richie Albrecht in Minneapolis, Minnesota in November 1992. The result of the fight with Albrecht was a split draw. LaCoursiere subsequently faced some of the best boxers in the world, losing to Kostya Tszyu, Tony Lopez, Todd Foster, Gary Murray, Julio César Chávez, and Hector Camacho Jr, and defeating former IBO World lightweight champion Mike Evgen.
