Haslingden High School is a secondary school located in Haslingden, Rossendale, England. The school receives children from many local primary schools, one of the largest being Haslingden Primary School. History The two schools in Haslingden that preceded the school were Haslingden Grammar School on Bury Road, which was knocked down in 1997, and turned into a housing development, and Haslingden County Secondary School on Ryefield Avenue.which later on was turned into a primary school lead by headteacher Mr Glynn Elis Performance In the most recent inspection by Ofsted, the main school was awarded ''"Good"'' in all criteria. The sixth form was also graded as ''"Outstanding"'' for care, advice and guidance. Sharon Hollows
Dame Sharon Hollows, DBE (born 14 December 1958) is an English schoolteacher and headmistress. Born in Burnley to Jack and Margaret Hollows, Hollows' first headship was at Calverton Primary School in Newham in 1994, pupils' performance was very poor. By 1999, when the primary school results were published, Hollows had raised the score 11-year-olds achieved across the three subjects in the national curriculum tests to 269 – up from just 45 in 1994. It marked out the school as the most improved in the country. In 2001 the performance went up again, to 287, far above the national average, with most of the students being of African, Asian or Eastern European descent. In October 2000, Hollows gave the footnote addresses at the W. Garfield Weston Foundation's Outstanding Principals Awards Program conferences in Vancouver and Calgary. Brent North is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 1997 by Barry Gardiner of the Labour Party. Rhodes Boyson
Sir Rhodes Boyson (11 May 192528 August 2012) was an English educator, author and Conservative Party politician who served as Member of Parliament for Brent North. He was knighted and made a member of the Privy Council in 1987. Early life Born in Haslingden, Lancashire, the son of Alderman William Boyson MBE JP, Rhodes Boyson was educated at Haslingden Grammar School, University College Cardiff, the University of Manchester, the London School of Economics, and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Burnley is a constituency centred on the town of Burnley in Lancashire which has been represented since 2019 by Antony Higginbotham, a Conservative. History The seat was created in 1868. From World War II until 2010 it was won by Labour candidates, generally on safe, large majorities; Ann Widdecombe failed to take the seat from the Labour Party in 1979.
