Haslev Church ( da, Haslev Kirke) is a church located in the town of Haslev, Diocese of Roskilde, Faxe Municipality in Region Sjælland on the Denmark, Danish island of Zealand (Denmark), Zealand. The oldest parts of the church were built in the 12th century but today's structure is the result of its rebuilding in 1916. History The first church in Haslev was probably a wooden structure built in the 11th century although nothing remains of it today. In the 12th century, limestone was used to build a small church, long and wide, with a nave, a chancel and an apse. Faxe municipality is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Denmark in Region Sjælland on the island of Zealand. The municipality covers an area of 406 km² and has a population of 35,418 (2008). Its mayor as of January 2018 is Ole Vive. He is a member of the agrarian liberal Venstre political party. On 1 January 2007 Faxe municipality, as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), came into existence by merging the three former municipalities of Haslev, Fakse, and Rønnede. Gisselfeld
Gisselfeld, a former monastery, is Denmark's fifth-largest estate. Located between Haslev and Næstved, it extends into several municipalities but the main building is located in Braaby Parish in Faxe Municipality. The estate measures 3,850 hectares, including Hesede, Edelesminde, Brødebæk and Gødstrupgård, of which 2,400 hectares is forest. The three-storeyed Renaissance-style building has stepped gables, loopholes and a projecting tower over the main gate. The grounds include a moat, a well-kept park, lake, waterfall, gardens, greenhouse, and a fountain. A recent addition in its forest is a 45 meter tall hyperboloid tower. History Gisselfeld is first mentioned at the end of the 14th century when the owner was Bo Falk. At that time, there was a small manor situated some 2 km northwest of the site of today's main building. It stood next to an older fort, possibly the now demolished Valgestrup. Jesper Bodilsen
Jesper Bodilsen (born 5 January 1970) is a Danish jazz double bassist. Biography Bodilsen was born in Haslev, Denmark. He was a student of Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. Since the end of the 1990s he worked regularly with Ed Thigpen, with whom he recorded various albums. Marianne Christiansen
Marianne Christiansen (born June 18, 1963 in Haslev) is a Lutheran bishop in the Church of Denmark. Life Marianne Christiansen is the daughter of Bishop Henrik Christiansen and Sister of Helle Christiansen, Head of the Church of the Cross in Denmark. Christiansen gained a Candidate of Philosophy in music in 1989 and in science in 1992, both from Aarhus University. From 1986 to 1991, together with former member of parliament of the Radical Left Henrik Svane, she served as a principal at the Music and Theater College in Toftlund, and from 1993 the parish priest of Skørping-Fræer. In 1996 she became a lecturer at the Pastoral College in Aarhus specialising in Psalm knowledge and worship studies. Bregentved
Bregentved is a manor house located 3 km east of Haslev on the Danish island of Zealand. It has been owned by the Moltke family since the middle of the 18th century. History Early history The first known reference to Bregentved is from 1319 when King Eric VI of Denmark passed the estate to Roskilde Abbey. From the end of the 14th century the property was owned by a succession of aristocratic families, including that of Krognos in the 16th century, until 1718 when it was acquired by King Frederick IV. In the eighteenth century Bregentved was in consecutive Birks, so had separate legal jurisdiction from Haslev Sogn (parish) and old Ringsted Herred (hundred). The north wing still extant in the early 21st century was built 1731-36 by architect Lauritz de Thurah and has a black-tiled, hipped roof. It contains a chapel on the first floor. Jens Christian Skou
Jens Christian Skou (; 8 October 1918 – 28 May 2018) was a Danish biochemist and Nobel laureate. Early life Skou was born in Lemvig, Denmark to a wealthy family. His father Magnus Martinus Skou was a timber and coal merchant. His mother Ane-Margrethe Skou took over the company after the death of his father. At the age of 15, Skou entered a boarding school in Haslev, Zealand. He graduated in medicine from the University of Copenhagen in 1944 and received his doctorate in 1954. He began working at the Aarhus University in 1947 and was appointed professor of biophysics in 1977. He retired from the Aarhus University in 1988, but kept offices at the Department of Physiology (today part of the Department of Biomedicine). Emilie Ulrich
Emilie Ulrich (''née'' Boserup) (26 November 1872 – 31 January 1952) was a Danish soprano who sang leading roles at the Royal Danish Opera from 1894 until her retirement from the stage in 1917. She was born in Frerslev, a small town near Haslev in the Zealand Region and made her stage debut on 9 May 1894 as Margherita in Arrigo Boito's ''Mefistofele'' at the Kongelige Teater in Copenhagen .
