One source says it originated from a village in Lancashire that doesn't exist anymore called ''Haesel-hamm'' which is Old English for ''Hazel-Wood Farm''. Another is Hasland in Derbyshire, which made sense because records does show the surname originated from the county before emigrating to Oxfordshire in the 15th century and later to Lancashire where the surname is most common, strongly around Bolton.. John Haslem (politician)
John Whitton Haslem (born 1 February 1939) was born in Melbourne, Victoria and educated at Brighton Grammar School and Melbourne University where he attained an LLB and B.Com. His early career was as a solicitor in Melbourne before moving to Canberra in 1965 to join the Federal Department of Trade and Industry. He returned to legal practice in 1970 with a leading Canberra law firm where he became a Partner. In 1975 he stood for pre-selection for the seat of Canberra for the Liberal Party. He was elected as the first Liberal Party member for the House of Representatives seat of Canberra in 1975, serving until his defeat by Labor Party's Ros Kelly in the 1980 election. His notable achievement in office being his service on the Parliamentary Committee that initiated and launched the New Parliament House. John Haslem (artist)
John Haslem (1808–1884), was an English china and enamel painter, and writer. He painted many portrait miniatures of Queen Victoria, the Royal Family and other nobility. Life and work Haslem was born in 1808 at Carrington in Cheshire (now part of Greater Manchester). He left home as a young boy to live in Derby with his uncle James Thomason, who went on to manage the Derby China factory. He studied under local ceramic artist, ''George Hancock'', and first devoted himself to flower-painting, but subsequently took to figure-painting, in which he was very successful. Haslem painted the head of Lord Byron for the Duke of Sussex as a present for the King of Greece, and at the Duke's instigation came to London and studied under Edmund Thomas Parris. He copied many pictures in miniature on enamel, and was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy from 1836 to 1865. In 1842 he won a medal from the Society of Arts for a portrait painted on china. Udonis Haslem
Udonis Johneal Haslem ( born June 9, 1980) is an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Florida Gators, where he was a key member of four NCAA tournament teams. Haslem began his professional career in France with Chalon-sur-Saône and then signed with his hometown Miami Heat in 2003 and has become the longest tenured Heat player in franchise history. He has also won three NBA championships while playing for the Heat. Early life Haslem was born in Miami. His father, John, played college basketball for the Stetson Hatters from 1972 to 1974.
