Hashmatrai Khubchand Chainani
Hashmatrai Khubchand Chainani (29 February 1904 – 28 November 1965) was the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. Early life Chainani was born to a Sindhi family in 1904 in British India. He primarily studied in Hyderabad, then admitted to D J Sindh College of Karachi. In 1925 he passed B.A. in Natural Science Tripos from Magdalene College, Cambridge, England. After passing Indian Civil Service, Chainani returned to India in 1927 and was first appointed Assistant Collector at Sholapur then at Nasik, Khandesh and Poona. Career He started his judicial career as an Assistant Judge at Poona in 1933 and was promoted as District and Sessions Judge at Sholapur. In 1935, he was appointed Secretary to the Bombay Legislative Council and Assistant Legal Remembrancer. In 1944 Chainani became the Joint Secretary of Home Department, Government of Bombay then transferred as Deputy Secretary to the Home Department of Government of India. Indian Civil Service (British India) Officers
The Indian Civil Service (ICS), officially known as the Imperial Civil Service, was the higher civil service of the British Empire in India during British rule in the period between 1858 and 1947. Its members ruled over more than 300 million people in the Presidencies and provinces of British India and were ultimately responsible for overseeing all government activity in the 250 districts that comprised British India. They were appointed under Section XXXII(32) of the Government of India Act 1858, enacted by the British Parliament. Sindhi People
Sindhis ( sd, سنڌي Perso-Arabic: सिन्धी Devanagari; ) are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group who speak the Sindhi language and are native to the province of Sindh in Pakistan. After the partition of British Indian empire in 1947, many Sindhi Hindus and Sindhi Sikhs migrated to the newly independent Dominion of India and other parts of the world. Pakistani Sindhis are predominantly Muslim with a smaller Sikh and Hindu minority, whereas Indian Sindhis are predominantly Hindu with a Sikh, Jain and Muslim minority.
